Given the quality of some team sports, surprised more officials don't doze off.

Not sure what the problem with the replay was...

2. If you are not wearing a washable, fitted mask with reusable filters at this point, you are not taking it seriously, either. Fark you, too.
3. If you are concerned about a field goal while millions are dying, fark you, thrice.

Don't they normally have 2 ref's in the end zone to watch those? There is no kind of official replay system in college football? Could the ref's have just watch the freakin replay on the big screen and called it since they weren't paying attention?

If the ref really wasn't looking cant they stop the game and make sure they get things right instead of saying oopsies it must have missed?

Cool now go into the entertainment tab and rip all of those people for talking about entertainment stuff during a pandemic, or the food tab etc.  Apparently the whole world is supposed to stop and only talk about the pandemic 24/7.

I saw the Kibbie Dome in some ancient version of NCAA Football and knew it had to be a mistake so I went looking for pics and video. To my horror, and bemusement, it was real and the game's version was as accurate as could be hoped for the time. That thing is an utterly hideous abomination but given the budget and location, it at least makes practical sense.

Idaho football is still the only program to jump up to 1-A and then go back down to 1-AA. Credit for at least knowing what they are.

On a general college football message board we once took great interest in Idaho football upon discovering they had a habit of going shirtless and posing for team pics while slathered in baby oil. It was bizarre.

I've been wearing 2 masks (one surgeon's, topped with cloth w/filter, but almost everyone who works in hospitals (excluding those taking care of covid patients), including surgeons, are wearing the same masks they always wear. I've been there a lot in the past few months.

This is on all of the officials.   Yeah, he was adjustig his mask and farked up.   But the other officials reviewed the play and still called it a missed FG.    There was no excuse for that.

It seemed a lot like the views we were shown were literally the only views the refs had to go off, so basically nothing.  The 2nd ref, yes there is usually one under each goalpost, might not have had a good angle to tell if it was within the other post.  That's why they position like they do.

On a related note, from TFA:
Officiating a football game is harder than it looks, but most fans can probably agree that the easiest part is looking up and deciding if a ball went to the left or right of a large yellow pole. Apparently, this crew wasn't up for that task.

May be oversimplifying it a little.  Sure, when positioned properly (and looking), it's easy 90+% of the time.  It's either left or right of the post as you are looking up, or hits it.  It's a lot trickier when the ball goes over the posts because you lose that cushion of where the ball would hit the post.  There's a reason baseball foul poles are so tall and equipped with little fences to make them wider.

Yes, and they each stand directly under the uprights. So all they each have to determine is did it pass inside or outside of me. It is the easiest thing they do after the coin toss.

I once saw a play like that in a high basketball game.  Player shoots and is fouled.  Ref blows his whistle, calls the foul, says the basket is good, one foul shot coming.  The home bench and crowd erupted because the ball hadn't gone in.  It was one of shots where the rolls around the rim looking like it's going to go in, but it rolls out.  The ref had looked away just a little too soon.  The final result: 2 for phantom basket, 1 for the made foul shot, technical fouls on the coach leading to 4 points on those foul shots, plus they get the ball back and immediately score for 2 more points, finishing out the ever-elusive 9 point play.

According to TFA, there was a review and it was still called wrong.

The commentator in the clip, when they showed the replay, specifically said not to watch the ball because "you won't see it", which was true.  Odds are there was no camera angle that actually caught the ball going through the uprights.  It's FCS, they're lucky to have TV at all.  The camera crews aren't going to be top-notch.

I am in a quandary here.

EWU is my team but Idaho's QB shares the same rare last name as me! I'm glad he won, although if EWU lost to Idaho...that means we suck sh*t. So I guess I can ignore this season that shouldn't exist anyway.

Done and done.

At least this year I won't drive up to Frisco to watch EWU get murdered by NDSU again.

It is possible to still love sports while the world around seems on the brink of collapse. If anything, sports bring people closer together.

I've read and enjoyed your posts over time but I think you're way off base (see what I did there) with this one.

Sports do bring people closer together.

And we are in a pandemic. Whete sound scientific advice is to not do that.

See what I did there?

I watched a game on tv yesterday and players had their noses sticking out on the court.

How is it that science is trumped literally by mouth breather fans of close human contact?

Fark I always forget there is a Frisco in Texas.

Dad was a waterfront worker and one of the things he learned over the years is that San Francisco workers HATED that name used for SF. At least the ones he knew...

/probably the only blue collar workers who could afford to live there 20 years ago...

My dad was not a prostitute.

Though I'd not be surprised if he paid for them.

Yes, as a former Californian I would never refer to San Francisco as Frisco.

You could also be John Gruden, getting paid an obscene salary and a minority owner of the team and somehow still can't figure out how to get a piece of cloth for over his face consistently.
