I was a good boy all year. I did everything they recommended. washed my hands more often. wiped down surfaces. minimized trips to the store. stayed away from my elderly mother and grandmother. all of it.

now I'm vaccinated and I'm going somewhere this summer. nothing huge, maybe someplace a few hours away, but I'm going.

Working in retail and dealing with covidiots on a daily basis I unfortunately have to say a firm nope. Don't want to travel to places where either the restaurants or the destination doesn't seem to care about mask requirements.

More than 30,000 people die annually in the U.S. from unintentional injuries at home. Life is always at risk. I feel I'm smart enough to travel safely and use all precautions that are needed.

Sorry doomers, by life will eventually go on.

We're hoping for a cabin trip, but that's about it. Next year, though, my wife has a conference in Porto, and dammit I want to go. We went in 2016 and it's one of my favorite places. For about a week (without kids) I lived on chorizo and sangria. It was glorious.

+1

This is exactly where I am, although I'm going to go before summer.  I think there's a whole workforce who stayed employed WFH and did save money and are champing at the bit to go anywhere / do anything.  Probably have accrued vacation.  I'm hoping to beat price increases / crowds by going sooner.

Some savings + vaccination + huge, pent-up wanderlust.

I get calls from people pretty much every day asking about covud testing before going to Hawaii. No, we don't test. No, we don't have a rapid test anywhere in the city. Yes, it's a huge pain in the butt. How about don't go to Hawaii during a pandemic?

Several places I'd love to go, but I have not been able to get a vaccine yet. My wife did, so maybe she will be going by herself heh.

We probably have a safety mismatch too. My wife is eligible for vaccination just now, though she's been unable to book it. And she also apparently had a very mild case of the virus, and somehow I didn't. She will totally travel to another country on her own if I am going to hold her back for months.

But we like road trips, so maybe she can hold out until it's reasonably safe for both of us to do that. Airports seem like the last place I think will be safe.

I haven't even been to a Target or Walmart since this started.
People are stupid and hurtful , I am doing fine not letting some greedy ,selfish a-hole get me killed.
We don't even know the true effectiveness of the vaccine yet.
I got my vaccine ,I will just let the morons on vacation test out its effectiveness in real life before I can pretend life is normal again.

Pairing this with 'we don't know how effective the vaccine is yet' makes this particularly amusing.

See, you may have had a point if I said all people but I finished it by referring to "greedy, selfish a-holes".
My point is proven by the fact we knew how dangerous the disease was before we got one case and death. Now because of selfishness ,greed ,and stupidity (thinking it will not happen to me so who cares?) the dead Americans are over $500,000 people.

I also was talking about true effectiveness in real life. Show the cartoon about how effective a bullet is in laboratory conditions by the same people as the cartoon you posted before.
People can be dishonest and spin anything especially if all you want to do is defend terrible things.

I drove from CA to MT this summer. I did takeout/drive through the whole time and ate in my hotel rooms, my car, or parks. I stayed in chain hotels where I could verify by reviews that they were actually following best practices. I didn't go shopping anywhere. I spent my entire trip walking around towns, hiking, doing nature trails, and visiting historical sites and cemeteries.

It was fun, and I think it was more or less safe, but I think that's the only kind of trip I can see myself taking for awhile and I don't think it would be for everyone.

Once we are all vaccinated, I suspect that there will be some sort of family reunion in Atlanta. Among my immediate family, only myself and my niece haven't gotten shots yet (we don't qualify).

We've also been discussing a river cruise in Europe or off-roading in Moab in the fall.

Yes, it is a legitimate slogan that was used at last year's World Economic Forum. But there are conspiracy theorists who have taken that slogan as some type of "clue" that the coronavirus pandemic was concocted in order to enslave humanity and end capitalism. (LOL)

That's the type of misinformation that I'm referring to, which someone decided to spread in this thread, a thread that was originally about travel and society's comfort as vaccinations become more accessible.

I want to go camping. Just drive for about 8 hours, set up camp, hike for a few days, take photos of the Milky Way, and fall asleep to the sound of a babbling brook. It's a relatively low risk activity, and I was going to do it last year, but there was a 6.5m earthquake exactly right where I wanted to go. I knew the aftershocks would be the greatest danger, and sure enough, one of them took down a mountainside. Sigh. Almost a year later, it looks like it's calmed its tits a bit.

I get my 2nd shot mid-March, and same. I'll do a number of trips, both driving & flying. More than happy to wear masks, sterilize, the whole bit while vaccination propagates, and always have been.

I'm not sitting here vaccinated & remaining a shut-in. I don't think anyone who's vaccinated should either. Hell, go out to eat. Spend money. It'll help a lot of people.

Last place any of my family went was Florida in December 2019, just as the pandemic was beginning to emerge.  My wife and daughter went to visit her mom and stepdad for the holiday, as she does just about every year.

After a year of lockdown, we've decided to take a mini vacation somewhere close because we're all getting a bit stir crazy cooped up in the same house all day every day.  Short drive from home, only about 100 miles, to a location that's even more rural than we are.  Planning on taking all of our food from home so we don't have to go to one of the local stores.

I have him Farkied as an anti-masker, so take anything he says with a grain of salt.  He claimed at one point that he went for a routine doctor visit wearing a mask, but his doctor laughed and told him to take it off because they're useless in preventing the spread of COVID.

I was only pointing out that bad things happen regardless. I made zero number comparison here so to me, it's a shame some doomers can have better reading comprehension.

Look, I take all precautions and do all I can to help curb the spread of Covid. I certainly ain't a "covidiot." But being an intelligent person who can use common sense, I feel I can go and do things while greatly minimizing the risk. Maybe if I lived in one of our great cesspool cities I would feel different, but I don't.

Now if hiding in the back of your bedroom closet curled up in a ball makes you feel better, go for it.
