That is a really stupid example. Words and complete descriptions are really important in laws. The ability to simply rename something should not be a legal work around

Zero taxes on any and all local, state, or national lotteries.  No exceptions.

The tax is the stratospheric odds of winning - and why the State allows them.

Taxing the rare winner is double-taxation.

So close.

Ban lead in all civilian ammunition for easily justifiable environmental and physiological / mental health effects.

What, Ducks Unlimited, but not People Unlimited?

Seriously, tie executive pay to everyone else's.

Top positions in company can only make 15X more than lowest paid person.

This includes all compensation along with any deferred compensation.

Can't be done with legislation - requires a constitutional amendment.

Only I get veto power, and it can't be overridden.  And it applies to Supreme Court decisions.

euro is saying that the example is easily circumvented, and thus really stupid.  All it would take is renaming the weapon the AR-16.  A better version would be "firearms that meet criteria set by ATF to achieve goals A, B, and C - and at least meet criteria X, Y, and Z- shall not be sold or transferred to non-military buyers."  That still has loopholes you could drive a semi through, but at least it has more relevance than the example, which can be circumvented by a Dremel tool.

On gun control (as someone that has legally purchased firearms and kept in home in three other countries besides the US) I would go with just using  the French laws for firearms, types and calibers.

I will not say it is a toss up, but it is an either or. Either of these would change the way Americans think about what really matters: children and each other.

1) No more use of property taxes to fund schools. National funding and national education.

2) Medicare for all.

Either one of those would lead Americans to change their way of thinking about OTHERS and get them to see that responsibilities need to be shared to have a civil society. Both of those are basic rights. Both are at the root of de jure and de facto equal opportunity.

I saw an NHK documentary last night which showed that the average Japanese taxpayer spent about 2500 dollars to support the people affected by the 3 11 disaster 10 years ago. I know personally of people who have never spent a night in a hospital in 60 plus years who have paid over a million dollars in taxes to support universal health care in Japan. By and large, all of those people feel that their sacrifice and commitment to society ARE WORTH IT, and they feel good about contributing to a civil society that takes care of people who need it. They won't undermine a government they have worked so hard to support over so many years.

Those who protect others are protected. I think Americans need to feel connected to what government does and what their taxes buy. Americans need a renewed commitment to shared sacrifice in building a better society.

Pick either of the efforts above and make it the cornerstone for a new social contract and make America great again.

Purple_Urkle: Make the maximum term for all copyrights and IP, 3 years.

Three years is insanely short though.

If someone writes a book it might take a while for it to get popular. Even if it is popular right of the bat, waiting 3 years to turn it into a movie because it would then be free will be the default. Then you get a writer who creates a story and earns a somewhat decent living having to see others earn millions from the story they wrote shortly after writing it.

It needs to be long enough that the writer is likely to be paid while it is popular, but not so long that people won't remember it by the time the copyright expires.

Legislation passed in Congress must:
a) Have a title which is a clear and accurate summary of the contents of the bill
b) Be strictly limited to one topic (no riders, omnibus bills, etc)
c) Be no more than 10 pages in length plus [some small x value] for cited legislation.

An America where the average citizen has no hope of knowing what is in a bill, where every single piece of legislation has equal numbers of reasons to vote for it or vote against it, is an America where the people are wholly disenfranchised and politicians cannot be readily held accountable.

Sure, there are a lot of other things that cause more acute problems, but I don't see how you can fix a problem when some dickhead can just add a 190-page EPA dissolution and abortion ban addendum to whatever bill they want.

In the United States, electoral reform.

All primaries for federal offices are held on the same day (first Tuesday after first Monday in May.)  All candidates are on the same ballot. For House/Senate, top two plus anyone else who gets 20% of the vote qualify for the general. For President, any candidate that gets a majority of a state's votes or at least 20% of the vote in 20% of the states qualifies for the general.

Ok, now that I've got the serious out of the way:
- breakfast menus should be available all day long
- snipers should take position near busy roads, intersections and take out any idiot who honks their horn
- it is legal to slap your boss if they yell at you, provided it be instantaneous, otherwise they won't learn. You can still be terminated afterwards, but politely.
- seeds for vegetables and fruits shall be provided for personal use free of charge
- hogging the left lane while not going the maximum legal speed possible is a fine of $1,000

New law:

Any person elected to political office who lies must accept an unrestrained cock punch by every person affected by that lie. People without functional hands may use knees. People without either functional hands or knees may appoint a boxer or MMA fighter of their choice as a surrogate.

Any journalist, "journalist", pundit, commentator, or "TV personality" who lies while relaying news must do so while wearing moderately-electrified alligator clamps on both nipples and whatever genitalia they might happen to be sporting.
