(KRTV Great Falls)   "My husband said, 'Was that what I think it was?' and I'm like, my God, I think so." What it was was a bald eagle dying from lead poisoning, but fortunately this Montana couple live in the same town as a raptor conservation center and they saved its life   (krtv.com) divider line

TV reporting: no comment on the cause of the lead poisoning.
I'm guessing shotgun pellets. He ate prey that had been killed or wounded and still had lead imbedded in its flesh or he had been wounded. Either way, some idiot abandoned animals he had shot, leaving them to suffer.

Just use farking steel birdshot. It is really close in price and use plus you don't hurt other non gamebirds by being lazy or a bad hunter

Here in Montana, that part is obvious.

A bald eagle dying of lead poisoning...falling from the tree of liberty....where flops around a bit and is devoured by a Velociraptor wearing a gold chain with a dollar sign is perfect metaphor for 2021.

And to think, the "patriotic" and ultra-nationalist GQP doesn't think the government should protect bald eagles.  Farking hypocrites.

A guy is caught by a ranger eating a Bald Eagle and is consequently put in jail for the crime. On the day of his trial, the man got a chance to explain himself:

Judge: "Do you know that eating a Bald Eagle is a federal offense?"
Man: "Yes, I did. But if you let me argue my case, I'll explain what happened."
Judge: "Proceed."
Man: "I got lost in the woods. I hadn't had anything to eat for two weeks. I was so hungry. Next thing I see is a Bald Eagle swooping down at the lake for some fish. I knew that if I followed the eagle I could maybe steal the fish. Unfortunately, in the process of taking the fish, the eagle fought back and I killed the eagle. I figured that since I killed the eagle I might as well eat it since it would be more disgraceful to let it rot on the ground."

Judge: "The court will take a recess while we analyze your testimony."
15 minutes goes by and the judge returns.
Judge: "Due to the extreme circumstance you were under and because you didn't intend to kill the eagle, the court will dismiss the charges. But if you don't mind the court asking, what does a Bald Eagle taste like?"

Man: "Well, your honor, it is hard to explain. The best I can describe it, it's sorta between a California Condor and a Spotted Owl."

Lead poisoning in raptors primarily comes from scavenging gut piles contaminated with bullet fragments or eating fishing weights in the guts of waterfowl.

Us real Americans know that it's the Wild Turkey that should have been named as the national bird, and not the admittedly grand, but far less intelligent Eagle.

Happily, both of them are as common as Crows these days.

"For my own part I wish the Bald Eagle had not been chosen the Representative of our Country. He is a Bird of bad moral Character. He does not get his Living honestly. You may have seen him perched on some dead Tree near the River, where, too lazy to fish for himself, he watches the Labour of the Fishing Hawk; and when that diligent Bird has at length taken a Fish, and is bearing it to his Nest for the Support of his Mate and young Ones, the Bald Eagle pursues him and takes it from him." - Benjamin Franklin

A story similar to this showed up in my YouTube feed awhile back.
Very sick eagle that was later determined to be lead poisoning.
Fairly lengthy video that showed from when the bird was captured all the way through its recovery, rehabilitation to release.

While driving in the expanse of desert area SE of Albuquerque, there is not much to see, so when I spotted something out in the middle of the sandy scrub and it moved, I had to pull over to see what it was, once the traffic died down. (Just kidding; I don't think another vehicle had gone by for some time and for many miles.)

Anyway, I had some binoculars and observed a mature bald eagle, just standing on the ground holding a snake in its beak. If it had been perched atop a flowering nopal cactus I might have expected a herd of Aztecs, guided by the prophecies of Huitzilopochtli to found a new Tenochtitlan at any minute.

"The couple was fresh from saving another juvenile bald eagle in the same area, a female, another that they took to Becky."

I think the only way the husband can maintain an erection is to poison a bald eagle.  The post orgasm clarity then brings depression and he takes it for care.

/the wife wants to eat it afterwards
//but he reminds her of the poison

I once helped hold an injured bald eagle so a wildlife rehab vet could wrap it's broken wing. Two guys held the talons and I held a dowel for it to bite. Bald eagles are impressive birds. Even more so up close and personal.

And if you ask them about maybe not using lead shot  when they're out there shooting prairie dogs to get an erection, they'll  say, Buddy, are you trying to infringe on my FREEDOM?  And they just look at you, with their gun.

Yup, seems appropriate.

If rural people don't eat enough lead, they might start voting for progressive candidates.  So lead poisoning is in their interests.  I'm sure they were this close to bringing back leaded gasoline.

I believe we found the source of the lead.

Probably a case of Hero Syndrome due to social isolation caused by Covid and the outrageous housing prices in Bozeman.

Getting a kick etc. because just last weekend I was walking with a friend down a dirt road in town (actually a frozen-mud-ice road) and overhead flew a bald eagle!

/ we see them rarely - they're much more common over on the west area where they can pick up stunned fish in the river. (its not a big dam but some fish go thru it instead of around and it does not turn out well for them)

There's a reason bald eagles aren't endangered. They were once nearly extinct in the lower 48.
