Some background:

Khanyisa is the smaller, lighter baby. She's an albino and just over a year old. She was found trapped in a snare at around 4 weeks old in January 2020.

Fenya, was just rescued (early February 2021) and is estimated to be about 2 1/2 years old. She was also found trapped in a snare. The blue stuff on her skin is an anticeptic-type medicine. She will have to have stitches for her right ear.

Both of their birth herds abandoned them when they couldn't remove them from the snares. Humans found them, and now they're both living in this South African rehabilitation center owned by the blonde lady.

nanim: ?What were the snare-setters actually trying to catch?

Don't know.

But, these babbies were caught in them for a while before humans found them.

Here is a 57 min video showing Fenya's first days at the rehab center. You can see how frightened she was when she first got there and then see how much better she is after just 6 days.

Probably pretty much anything that could be butchered and sold as bush meat. Baby elephants would qualify.

(Elephant meat supposedly tastes pretty good.)
