"Mister, you may conquer the air but the birds will lose their wonder and the clouds will smell of gasoline."

Not entirely, it reveals that the people the wrote it are smart enough to to take advantage of dumber people to get their vote.

MattytheMouse: I like guns, but goddamn the second amendment is a scourge upon this country.

Same.  I don't understand the aversion to things like registration, required firearms safety classes, getting rid of stupid "person to person" legality sales, or at minimum all gun owners go through the same process that I did to get a CCW 20 years ago, which was extended background check, fingerprints, etc.

I don't think anything like mag size restrictions or banning certain types of guns would have any effect on violence, but to me the above would go a long ways towards putting appropriate checks and balances into effect that are long overdue.

Maine really doesn't have any gun control anyway.  You don't need a permit to carry.    These people are morans.

The way one put it: if the NRA did to cars what we've done to guns, we wouldn't have seatbelts.

With the NRA pretty much on deaths door though, I'd say the damage is done.  I'm not sure when I realized the republican party & supporters were so dumb, but i think it was around 2009 or 10 when i was still going to gun shows with my old man.  I would overheard the dumbest things, see the stupidest slogans on T shirts, & feel like it was entirely not based on reality or common sense.

None of this is going to functionally change in our lifetimes I suspect (im nearly 40).  Its too entrenched & quite honestly the conservatives will back out anything possible at the first opportunity, the constitution will not get ammended, and we'll pretty much just have to accept the status quo without taking any opportunity to make even the smallest difference in the violence in america.

Subby is surprising, since sounctuary cities for migrants is a promise to be frog marched away by ICE agents, if necessary. Anything less would make the sanctuary cit distinction worse than worthless; it would be a trap for migrants by city activists willing to betray them at the first jingle of hadcuffs. Every sanctuary city designation must be an actual, you know, sanctuary, or selse the word will lose all meaning.

I'm in semi-rural Oregon, and one of our newly elected county commissioners is pushing for the same 2nd amendment sanctuary resolution.

She is a younger woman, transplanted from Arizona, who showed up out of nowhere on our political scene with a very well funded campaign. Think of a slightly less loony Lauren Boebert.

Who is backing this movement? Because there's no way this person came up with the same idea at the same time as those chucklefarks in Maine.

The town has like 3000 people living in it and they're basically Canada.  Why on earth did they even feel the need to make such a proclamation in the first place?

Only following the Second Amendment, eh?
And that's the one about gun ownership being for a "well-regulated militia"? Hmm. Since it doesn't specify WHO regulates it, this seems like a good opportunity to let the ATF step in and clarify. Worst-case scenario: you take it to the Supreme Court, and force them to finally admit this bullshiat has nothing to do with the spirit of the amendment, and everything to do with the need to have whatever cock-proxy they can get from the local gun show.

WELL REGULATED.  Exactly.  why is this always missed when they act like any and all acts against guns are infringing.. well, farking anything.

I just don't get it, and I've got a pile of handguns & enough ammunition to where if I died mysteriously i'd probably get a blurb in the local news calling me some sort of militant prepper/hoarder.

The translation is in the article already: "Maine virtually has no limits," Geoff Bickford said. "I'm not quite sure what the town is seeking sanctuary from and I don't see it other than a public relations move."

Sixty percent of US gun deaths are suicides.

They also have a weird obsession with guns.  The 2nd Amendment refers to arms in general, not specifically small arms.  It's almost as if they don't really care about the 2nd Amendment at all, and instead are using a highly selective interpretation because they don't want their emotional support weapons taken away.

Following the Jan. 20 decision, town councilor Bob Kilcollins, who drafted the resolution, said the town would only follow the Second Amendment, rejecting all unconstitutional state and federal gun laws.
