The result is that Fox is holding on-air tryouts for a new host. And none of the candidates are really clicking.

Better to destroy all opinion shows masquerading as news.

Rachel Maddow actually discusses the news.  The Fox assholes lie and make shiat up to rile up enough morons to vote in people and policies their masters want.

I'm surprised that anyone with an otherwise worthless White House resume hasn't been considered.  I guess FOX has standards.

Honestly, who the hell watches "TV news" or cares about ratings wars for this stuff in this day & age?

It feels like the media equivalent of watching old-timey moustachioed pugilists engage in fisticuffs over the buggy whip & manure-scooping markets.

FAUX can't compete any more, anyone not insane already isn't watching and anyone who is insane is too crazy for FAUX and needs something harder like NewsmaXXX or OOAN.

FAUX is fine lying, up to the point of committing legally proveable fraud, the kind that gets you sued.  Maxxx and OOAN are still flirting with it and seeing how it goes or if the can get away with it.

Let's all pray for the death of FAUX and the bankruptcy lawsuits of Maxxx and OOAN.

Networks do this all the time. Look how long it took MSNBC to start to stabilize their 7PM - 11PM shows. How many hosts did they go through before the current lineup? Reid is the newest (The Reidout) but she cut her teeth on weekends and seems to have a competent staff with her as backup. Hayes has his audience, and again a competent backbench. Maddox was the first to stabilize in that timeframe, et al.

Reid is still "new" so we'll find out in a year or so, but she seems to be doing well compared to the previous show. Timing might have helped, but if it bleeds Fox it's a win in any case. Plus she has an "energy" to her shows that seems to draw the audience over the daily issues.

I'll believe in disarray over programming at Faux Newz when they start having trouble paying arseholes like Tucker and Hannity.

You obviously don't own an original flip phone, or live in the far suburban lands where internet is just a dream, unless you like bouncing off some Echostar satellite dish with a lag measured in minutes.   Watch how easy it is for cities to vaccinate "older people" who have only land lines, don't text, don't stream, and do vote.

By the way, Truman beat Dewey.

I'd say "fark 'em" but all the former viewers are just going to go to even worse "news" sources

Fta: "The "hammock" demonstrates that a big chunk of the Fox base tunes in for talk and tunes out for news"

Nowhere in this supposed article does it mention that Fox Newsi s a propaganda arm of the GOP or the fact that the news segments were just there to keep low info viewers informed enough to follow the gist of the propagandists who follow. That doesn't matter so much now because even crazier propaganda is popping up elsewhere and fragmenting Fox.

This is one of those "forest for the trees" articles that piss me off so much.

Also I haven't had coffee yet.

I think the "real news" was there for skittish advertisers facing boycotts for advertising during shows like Carlson or Hannity.  The sales people could tell them, "That's OK.  We just won't put your ads on during Carlson, we'll just keep them during the news programming."

But even that doesn't really work for them now.

That is part of it, of course but in the main they needed a legit hard news program more in the beginning than they do now.

I still remember the early days of Fox when they were deeply invested in fooling people that they were a legitimate newsource and pushing the "fair and balanced" BS.

It worked. The Dems and MSM were afraid of criticizing them. Their propaganda became normalized. The training wheels fell off completely when HANNITY & colmes became just Hannity.

It would definitely be a problem getting him to comply with a schedule. Sometimes it took hours to sober him up and adjust his drugs for a press conference. And supposedly they had to film "the apprentice" line by line, where they would coax him into repeating a line and then piece the parts together later.  I think that a live show is out, but maybe they could get a "daily Trump rant" to show when possible or something.

And Fox News gets a massive carriage fee from the cable companies. The only channel that gets more per customer is ESPN. That is why the boycott of the Fox News advertisers doesn't work as well as we could hope. But, they are up for renegotiation of their carriage fee this year. So their ratings cratering right now is scaring the shiat out of them. If they can't bring their die hard audience to negotiations, they can't extort such a high fee from the cable companies.

Fox News has blackmailed cable companies into accepting that carriage fee with the threat of protests and boycotts if they tried to cut the fee, but with viewers flocking to "news" (sic) outlets like Newsmax or OAN which usually aren't on cable TV anyway, that threat is probably losing its power.

Shep's brand of professional journalism was on point, and to a degree that it frequently earned death threats from Fox's Y'allqueda viewers.  During his tenure, I would grudgingly admit that Fox News actually had one decent news program, even if it was caged inside a backwater timeslot.
