Very few people I'd pay that kind of cash to hit, but they exist.

But not nearly as satisfying.

I hope they give the money to the flight attendant.  Though I worry this might encourage flight attendants to escalate encounters in hopes of a large payout.

/sarcasm, how does it work?

Depends on what color skin the person who struck the flight attendant has. This is America, after all.

Here's an idea: fighting a flight attendant costs the passenger 27,500 bucks. The WINNER gets 30,000. I call it MMAA.

Maybe I'm just misreading but I can't understand the grammar of the article.

The unnamed passenger was traveling on a Delta flight from Miami to Atlanta on Oct. 19. They were traveling and sitting next to another passenger who refused to wear his mask, secure his tray table or fasten his seatbelt, according to the FAA.
The flight then returned to the gate where flight attendants asked the two passengers to get off the aircraft.

"In response, the passenger accompanying the non-compliant traveler ignored the flight attendant's instructions, began yelling expletives at the flight attendant and other passengers, and struck the flight attendant under her left eye," the FAA said.

Who was ejected (or deplaned as they like to say)? Who was non-compliant? Who was accompanying whom? Who is he? Is the term "they" referring to two people, or just using a non-gendered pronoun for the "him" they reference? How many people were even involved here?
Define your pronouns. Seriously.

Heck, I'm pissed he's not getting a federal assault charge, conviction, and a short 6mo-1.5 year prison sentence.

If a grown adult hasn't learned by now that you don't attack & injure people for just doing their jobs while you attempt to flout flight regulations, a slap-on-the-wrist fine isn't going to be sufficient to teach him.

Lucky the person who hit the flight attendant is still breathing. I would have taken that as an attack on the flight crew and would have tried my best to kill him.

Sounds like "passive non-compliant passenger A" actually turned out to be less of an asshole than his buddy, "punchy passenger B".

Fine 'em both.  Hard.  And ban them from flying.

I agree, anyone who gets up to these sorts of shenanigans has earned a place on the "no-fly" list permanently.

I know flying is not a right protected by the constitution. Flying is a privilege extended to polite ladies and gentlemen who don't mind being crammed together in uncomfortable seats for hours and hurtled through the sky like missiles.

MythDragon: How much of that does the flight attendant get?

Probably nothing. The flight attendants (all of them) get the peace of mind that if they get farked with in the course of their duties, the FAA will have their backs.  And maybe as stories like this are publicized, assholes might have second thoughts when considering behaving like assholes "shiat, I don't have $30,000 sitting around to pay a fine."

The individual flight attendant could probably sue the person that did the hitting, though.

Just shout, "He's got a knife!", and see what happens.

I mean, if he's gonna f*ck around, he should be ready for some unintended consequences.

Losing your mind like that will land you in prison. Knowing in advance that you'd lose your mind like that means that you should not be on an airplane.

Read an article this morning that the TSA, under new mandates, is going to straight zero-tolerance enforcement on this stuff through the end of March.

The hissy-fits, violence & flouting of safety rules around the pandemic needs to stop if we want minimally-safe air travel. No more docking around or playing cute with each other's safety on planes. So expect more stories about people getting in trouble over behaving like toddlers. New message entirely now being sent.

I'm so sure the letter will immediately produce payment.  At best they will negotiate a payment plan 3 or 4 years down the road to promptly ignore.

People who do stuff like this don't care about letters.

The person who hit the flight attendant was not the one refusing to wear a mask.  I'm guessing it was husband and wife, husband was being an oaf and wife got belligerent over it.
