Fun.

In another time and place (2010, Washington, DC), I attended the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear.Hosted by Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, the rally was filled with "protest" signs much like this guy's.

I really miss respectful discourse in this country. The way I see it, all extremists should be rounded up and shot.

Those were surprisingly unfunny or clever.

I got a chuckle out of some of those but all were amusing.

A lot of these would be great replies in various Fark threads. Or replies anywhere, really.

I pretty much agree with every one of these that I understand.  I have no idea what a charcuterie board is.  And, I admit, I'm not sure what his point is here:

I knew a guy in college, every time I would see him he would stick his finger under my nose and say "smell my finger!"

I saw him 20 years later at a bar (in 2014) and that was the FIRST thing he did to me.

That's who this sign guy reminds me of.

This is what it does:

It takes an hour from the morning -- an hour that you normally waste sleeping -- and puts it in the evening when you are normally awake. More evening light means more time for outdoor recreation and such.

It has nothing to do with energy conservation, agriculture, the war, farms or science, or any other such nonsense. It simply takes an hour of sunlight away from 5am and adds it to 9pm.

In northern latitudes in the summer, the sun rises around 4-5 am. People generally get up around 7. That's 2-3 hours of daylight wasted sleeping.

Daylight Savings fixes this. It moves those wasted hours to the end of the day when you are more likely to be awake.

Look at the graph again. Notice the bell shape of the sun's rise throughout the year. Daylight Savings flattens it somewhat, so that the sun generally rises within the same 2 hour window year round, and you always wake up when the sun gets up.

Utter bullsh*t. This rubbish decision was done to benefit rural right-wing dirt farmers, and no one living in a city gives two sh*ts for daylight savings. It's obsolete, it's conservative, and it's a f*cking scourge on humanity that should be abolished before it kills anyone else.

Farmers don't give a shiat what time it is. They get up when the animals get up. Daylight Savings means nothing to them.

Stephen_Falken: no one living in a city gives two sh*ts for daylight savings.

Actually, quite a lot of businesses do. More evening hours means more time for outdoor recreation. Restaurants, bars, beaches, clubs, as well as the tourism, travel and nightlife industries all benefit greatly from Daylight Savings.

Granted, that's also delicious, but can you make a little well in the top to fill with giblet gravy at Thanksgiving?

It forces people to alter their behavior, but really the number on the click is arbitrary. People can get up earlier without the "time" being different, but it is difficult to change your sleep patterns.

I will be a wreck when I finally go back to an office. Working from home means I can wake up later and still start work at about the same time.

We have found that it is much easier to just change the clocks themselves, rather than make all of society do everything an hour earlier: Wake up an hour earlier, go to work an hour earlier, have lunch an hour earlier, get off work an hour earlier, etc...
