Meh, no worse than non-animated. I still remember the apple jacks tagline "we eat what we like!" from the 80's/90's.

At least the old animated apple jacks ads had a catchy tune sung by a red blot egging the weaker kid to take on 3 bigger bullies by eating a bowl of apple jacks.

Isn't it nice to know that your kid's bowl of Frosted Flakes contains 25% of your daily iron as part of a balanced breakfast and that modern cereals reflect a healthier, lower-sugar lifestyle for children.

Back in the old days they used to have 12 minutes of cartoons and 18 minutes of commercials.

My mom may still have the green and the beige monster refrigerator magnets lying around somewhere.

CSBs!

Breakfast was weird at my house growing up. I literally can't remember Mom once cooking breakfast. It was always, always cereal (or pop tarts in high school). No fruit, no juice, and this all predated smoothies. Anyheez she never let us have cereal with marshmallows cuz that's just too much damn sugar, but things like cinnamon toast crunch were ok.

Don't get me started on the grade school lunches of peanut butter and strawberry cream cheese sandwiches (so help me god, delicious), or the high school deli roast beef and swiss (stolen, cuz "durr $2 a day hurr!") with a blue Hawaiian punch.

And a steady stream of frozen patio burritos and Jack's pizzas for dinner.

/might explain why I taught myself to cook
//that and chicks dig a guy that cooks

NINEv2: Crackling oat bran and crispix are awesome

crispix: delicious! it's crispy... times two!
cracklin' oat bran: maaan, that stuff was so expensive and came in the tiniest possible box. my one uncle always had it but would try to hide it, because he knew my cousin and I would accidentally the entire. we always found it, of course. even if they had froot-loops or frosted mini-wheats or pop-tarts in the house, we didn't care, our only focus was on scoring that sweet sweet cracklin' oat bran.

cigarette commercials are some of my favorite pieces of media, ever.

Very Funny Old Newport Cigarette Commercial - You wouldn't see this today!
Youtube IQdhddqcb44

My favorite one has a couple hunters staring down the barrels of their guns, frustrated with the taste of their current smokes.

second favorite is a low-key kind of gay kool ad with a couple truckers where a feller looks just a little too longingly at his buddy while he draws on this new menthol cigarette.

other classics involve old gold cigarettes, where a dude chastizes the camera about his coupon-collecting girlfriend and says "she's in it for the coupons, me I'm just for the flavor"

I've got a DVD set with piles of these insane advertisements in them, and even though I barely smoke a cigarette any more, I can totally see how this bullshiat duped a whole generation into killing themselves slowly.

oh dear lord yes please. homemade chex mix was always A Thing at holiday/family gatherings, usually corn+wheat or rice+wheat or sometimes all 3. plus all the peanuts pretzels etc. add-in goodies, of course. baked up real good in a swimming-pool of butter+seasonings.

but then? when crispix came out? the game totally changed, lol!
