Half assing a pandemic response lead us to 10% of the population as having it, 10% vaccinated with 80% being the threshold for herd immunity all while new variants will make those vaccinations worthless. Half assing it is 1400 one time payment to the workers of the nation who make the wealth while shoveling cash into Wall Street while they run up the score. Half assing is saying no lockdowns or mandates or any sort of help that the other developed counties who are poorer than the US can and have done for a year now.

Half assing has left us over half a million people less than before we started - with a health care system that is buckling. Our "army" is burning out and the "Calvary" is a vaccine roll out program that won't mean dick for a year, when we will have to revaccinate again due to mutations in the virus.

April?  What the hell was that op-ed writer smoking?  Most sensible people are hoping that next holiday season might be possible, but still not things back to "normalcy".

On the upside, two million more dead?

Science doesn't matter, the billionaires need you to go make them more money.

Since the lowest estimate for herd immunity is 80%, the US will not achieve it any time soon.  25-45% have said they won't get vaccinated, so it will take a while for those people to get sick and make their own antibodies.  This assumes the natural antibodies include memory cells (which for asymptomatic cases is questionable).

If we had 200 million doses of both Moderna and Pfizer vaccines ready to go in Q4 2020 as originally planned - sure. Instead our orders got their time-tables relaxed so no additional investment in manufacturing would be required. Something like that would certainly cut into profit margins, and we can't have that. The US government doesn't seem to mind that the orders won't be fulfilled in their entirety until 2022.

Its the WSJ opinion page. If their columns ever align with reality or a desirable outcome for 99% of the country, it was a mistake that the editor let slip through. It has always been insane, but it got even worse when Murdoch bought them.
