Don't matter. The legal fees. Remember the lawyers fees. Those will eat them alive.

Goddammit this. Its stupid that the folks who are most aggressively pushing lies get a brand that implies the opposite. Similar to the pro life folks. We have got to get better at branding. And just accept that its stupid but necessary.

Happy as it makes me to see actual repercussions here (or the threat of them anyway), I can't get too excited about libel litigation as opposed to real protections for election integrity.

The only lesson here is that all is fair until you involve a corporation.

I really hope these lawsuits go through to completion and aren't settled, it's high time these conspiracy theory types learn that there's consequences to the bullshiat they spew.

Also: "Dominion's trying to bully me into standing down," Lindell told VICE News. "It's going to backfire on them."

Except a court of law is not the internet, you have to present actual facts and evidence, which you know you don't have.

Best of luck to both companies. I know they have much better cases than the typical run of the mill libel/slander cases, but they're usually a difficult row to hoe.

All Dominion has to do is get a huge verdict, and then an appeal will be nearly impossible for all intents and purposes.  After a financial judgment, in order to appeal, the defendant must deposit the amount of the judgment with the court or obtain an appeal bond.  This insures the defendant will pay if the appeal fails.  An appeal bond is typically fully collateralized, so the defendant must have sufficient assets to pledge to the appeal bond company.  Should Dominion obtain a $50+ million dollar judgment (which isn't out of the question), the losing defendant can't appeal unless it either deposits that $50+ million with the court or pledges enough collateral to cover about 150% of that with an appeal bond company.  Most of the defendants have no ability to do that, so they would generally be unable to appeal and immediate bankruptcy would follow.

Look up the Texaco-Penzoil case from 1985 (and the USSC decision from 1987) to see what happens to a defendant that can't post an appeal bond for the awarded damages.  It ain't good.

Dominion is no longer worried about salvaging their reputation--they did that with the first salvo in this.

Their CEO is just pissed now, and doesn't want to back down. He is going to destroy his enemies and hear the lamentations of their women, or know the reason why.

"Some reason" = ET's Elliot, a Boondock Saint, Darlene's boyfriend (shut up, this is years before Awkward Nerd Show), Jeremy Sisto (why do I know his name if I know ZERO of his other credits? Um, besides those seasons of Law and Order that apparently he was in), and pre-asshole Jay Mohr; with Denis Leary, Robert (from Everyone loves Raymond) - and the "fish boots" scene.

Oh, and Chris Goddamn Walken.

It's much more than that - all over the world, election officials are questioning whether to contract with Dominion even if they don't believe one word of the lies.  They have to consider whether it's worth it to deal with the anti-Dominion forces even if all of the allegations against Dominion are demonstrably untrue.  If it's a close call between a Dominion system and a system by a Dominion competitor, not having the Dominion association is a factor in their decision making.  And I can't blame them for it.  They are stewards of taxpayer money, and they need to make decisions about how to spend that money wisely.  While the allegations made against Dominion are nonsense, that doesn't mean they can't impact a voting board's decision making.  Dominion is losing opportunities because of the sustained deliberate attack by Lindell, Giuliani, Powel, etc.  It's more than just executives being pissed, it's grave economic harm to the company, it's employees and its shareholders, and this is exactly why slander and libel laws are accessible to companies.

Problem is Dominion's legal fees are probably already super hefty. You can't name that many defendants and not be spending 10k a day on lawyers. And that is just to get the thing pled. If Dominion has the pockets this case could take twenty years. Yes. Twenty.

Nah.  That's not how this is going to play out.  Doesn't meant here won't be an issue here or there, but these cases aren't going to vanish because some low-level judge says so.

Difficulty: Constitution Article 1 Section 6. "...and for any Speech or Debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place. "

Can they game that broader by claiming "I was only quoting what I said on the floor of Congress"?  Dunno.

That's not a problem for Dominion (and its owner Staple Street Capital Management, a middle-market hedge fund).  Even if they are spending $10K a day on lawyers (they're not), that's less than $4 million a year. Not nothing, but not prohibitive either.  Even if they spend $20 million on lawyers, they figure they'll get that back and more, maybe much, much more.  And a vigorous public defense is necessary no matter the odds of prevailing and recouping losses from those being sued.
