Ope, got a new boss; gotta redo the propaganda to make our concentration camps look better. And before you come at me, I get the reported difference that this center is just to concentrate groups of unaccompanied youth that get caught crossing the border so that the government can reunite them with whatever family can be found. Still doesn't make it not a concentration camp, and doesn't eliminate any of the other facilities.

But I was told yesterday by Fark experts they were all "locked up" never allowed to leave. You mean they were talking out of their ass?

So your argument is we shouldn't try to help. We should abandon them instead and not give them somewhere to live or healthcare and try to reunite them with their parents?

According to your definition of "concentration camp" - Government housing is "concentration camps".

Throw them out into the street?

Place them with white republican Christian Baptist evangelicals who would be delighted to have a domestic servant* they can beat without feeling guilty?

So, if not in a housing facility, where are we putting them whilst a better option is sorted out?

basically the same

It depends on what your definition of a prison is.
I believe FoxNews tried to claim their prisons were good for the children also.

Simple fact. The kids were sent here to be recieved by some family in the U.S.
Take the kids to that family.

Way to bury the lede.

"It's either we send kids back to a very dangerous journey back to their countries. That's not a good option. I don't think anyone would support that option," Psaki said. "[Or] we send them to families that have not been vetted. We've seen challenges with that in the past where kids have been trafficked. That is not a good option in our view."

Farking Trump administration is an accessory to child trafficking!!!  Stephen Miller needs to be strung up by balls from a meat hook.

Sure you could put them there if you feel they deserve to be punished.
I think either of those would be much worse than where they are currently.
But you do you; if 'brown kids deseeve to suffer MORE!' is the hill you want to die on, then go for it.

sure, once that family is found and vetted as a safe place to send the child.

Options, re: unaccompanied minors:

1) return to sender;
2) Process and release;
3) Process and release to an unvetted "uncle";
4) detain with humane housing - not cages - food, water and proper hygiene until a suitable, vetted family member or guardian can claim the minor until a hearing date.

Remember  - these are high school aged children.

You're making a bold assumption that unaccompanied minors all have a family here ready to receive them.

And even assuming it's true, where do they stay while you're figuring out where that family is?

My kids can't leave school without the schools permission or my permission.  They are allowed to "leave" when a responsible adult is identified and able to take over the responsibility to care for them.  Same here.  This is completely different than taking children from responsible adults and putting them in an over-crowded housing facility, or forcing adults and children into a facility despite the adults having a place outside the facility they can live in.

As it somehow keeps getting missed, they opened the previously closed facility for children so they could actually follow COVID protocols

They needed to spread out the current kids who were in facilities that were over crowded

yes it sucks they are still being caged etc but this is the Biden admin trying to actually take safety seriously and not just dump people on top of one another

Circular logic
We have to make it look like we care for the childs welfare , so we have to say we have to investigate the guardian.
We also know the guardian can't allow themselves to be investigated because of I.C.E..
Meanwhile we all know the kinds of abuse suffered by American children in our prison system. Imagine what it is like for children without rights.

That's not true, at all.  We have to make sure the people taking the kids are fit and not going to traffic the kids into who knows what.  You're proposing what, exactly?  That anyone who wants a kid can just show up and take one?

It is hilarious to watch people contort themselves to try and make this just as bad, or somehow hypocritical.

What it tells me is that these people are simpletons, incapable or unwilling to do even the slightest bit of understanding if it upsets their already decided hatreds.

Unaccompanied minors have always been a problem for immigration. This is true now, and was true during the Trump admin, and was true before that.

The fact is that Trump and his goon squad came up with the second worst possible solution to the problem. Not least because they turned accompanied minors into unaccompanied minors and lost them in their cages.

And we all rightly focused on the horrible things they were doing and let the underlying problem itself slide a bit in our minds.

But the problem still remains, and now that the Biden admin is trying to solve it in a more humane manner, people only say 'He's solving that problem, what a monster!' because the last solution was one step from actual human trafficking.

That's not a solution. Making Bernie Sanders President doesn't fix the problem. What was Bernie's solution to the problem?

You seem unfamiliar with how a "hot take" works. When I came into the thread there were zero comments, so I was frantically trying to come up with a snarky joke for people to read right after seeing the Subby's headline. Unfortunately for Shaggy, I was beaten to the punch, so my joke was relegated to second comment, and worse, the joke wasn't even all that funny.

Besides, the "cages" were always a temporary measure and were a holdover from the Obama years. By the end of the Trump era the concentration camps had been cleaned up and made more permanent, and they look far more like the concentration camps that the Biden admin has running currently. Not perfect, but the best we can do given the situation.

If only we had nominated Bernie! He shiats sparkles and rainbows and has a magic wand that would make everything better!

In reality, if Bernie had magically been elected President we would have a Republican-controlled Senate (the Republican Governor of Vermont would have appointed Bernie's replacement) and we would be well and truly farked.
