I received the second Pfizer shot over a week ago.  I contacted City Hall to inquire about opportunities to volunteer.

What, is "being less likely to die" not good enough for you?  Until actual infection rates bottom out, carry on just like you have been before getting vaccinated.

How long is the vaccine good for? A year? Then what?

KungFuJunkie: How long is the vaccine good for? A year? Then what?

We don't know yet.  And the solution is to get boosters if they're required.  We do this every year for the flu so we can probably do it for COVID.

Stay the f*ck home, or at least away from other humans/animals.

When you're out and about for your essentials, wear your mask and keep your distance.

Vaccinated does not mean immune.  It means if you get infected, your symptoms are likely to be less serious.

There are variants out there that you are less protected against.  If you don't get infected with them, you can't pass them on.

This is a pandemic.  Treat it as such.  It will go away if no one spreads it.  Don't spread it.

Fly shots are almost always free.  So far the COVID vaccine is as well.  This isn't like they're charging $500/dose or anything.

I get the second shot soon.  The Red Cross tracks who has the shots to prioritize who will work disaster relief functions that directly interact with clients.

You can avoid getting a serious case of COVID once you're vaccinated.

Do we know or not whether you can still be infected and transmit the virus after you've gotten the vaccine?  There still seems to be some doubt whether or not people who have been vaccinated still need to wear masks.

Free to you maybe. Somebody is paying for them

If only there were some kind of article handy that one could read to learn the answer to this question.  I guess we'll never know.

You can ask for, or even demand certainty, but we're stuck with the reality we're in.  The vaccines aren't 100 percent, make your decisions accordingly.

It's possible, but less likely.

The bigger thing with the masks is that, since people are assholes, we can't just say you can stop with the masks in public once you've had a shot.

Also, the possibility of new strains that the vaccine might be ineffective or less effective against.

Probably the highest ROI of anything the government spends money on.

When Moderna turned to developing vaccines as a way to stay alive, their SEC statements actually lamented how low-revenue it was (compared to their primary business plans of developing per-person individualized cancer treatments that train your immune system to kill cancerous cells).

Vaccination is not a cash cow.

It's not that "there is doubt", it's that it has not been proven. The vaccine test protocols included PCR tests only for those who showed symptoms, so we can't say conclusively how many, if any, of those who did not show symptoms might have had an asymptomatic infection.

But it sounds like secondary evidence (out of Israel) points to a huge decrease in asymptomatic infection as well (only 29% effectiveness 2-3 weeks after the first dose - a number that might be low because what would have been symptomatic infections become asymptomatic infections; but 90% effectiveness 1 week after the second dose).

What I will say (and what the FDA says about the Pfizer vaccine) is that we don't have proof in the form of a statistical study that it prevents transmission, but "Most vaccines that protect from viral illnesses also reduce transmission of the virus that causes the disease by those who are vaccinated."

The war on covid is not meant to be won. It is meant to be continuous.

By 2024, we'll be in the "17th wave" and the public health "experts" will still be saying "just social distance and wear your masks for a couple more months" and the sheep will still comply as they line up for vaccine shot #6.
