Did we though?  Trump may be gone, but his 74M voters aren't.

It's seven weeks after the capitol was stormed.

Everyone responsible walks free.

Those who could do something?  Well, gollly, they're just too nice, you see.

How special that subby thinks we've avoided this.

Please look at the two threads immediately below this one (in the Commented section - dunno what the order will be if/when any is greenlit) and think again.

We're not out of the woods yet. Not by a long shot.

How much more plot armor will be worn in this one

The battle was won, but certainly not the wider war against GQP fascism yet.

A) show is just not good
B) the trend line for the US remains

I wouldn't cal that course "reversed" just yet.  "Delayed" is still more likely.

I'd say you've got decades to get out of the woods, if you manage at all

Nice to see I'm not the only one who thinks Biden's election didn't ensure anything.  Unless Democrats turn out in force in every single election going forward, there's nothing preventing potential disaster.

Man in The High Castle ended last year. And there are still far too many Trumpinazis to think we're passed that.

I used to watch this show, but it is way too depressing to watch. It is oppressingly difficult for me to watch... I am actually shocked that it is only in its fourth season - it feels like I've already watched 7 or 8 seasons worth of this show.

If there is any experience that gave me a preview of what living in the time of the pandemic would feel like, it would be watching this show.

Thankfully, I figured out I could just stop watching it.

It's not that I don't think it isn't a good show, or that we should not be horrified that such a reality could ever happen... it's just that it felt like a slog, getting through a season of this show. It happened even quicker than the bad stretches of the Walking Dead or Sons of Anarchy.

Jumped the shark by season three. (probably two) Stunning to look at yet remarkable how low budget it must be. But the world they built makes no sense.

It's approaching Walking Dead style inertia at this point.
What's left to explore in this world?

Here's an idea: they should do one where the Black women do the heavy lifting for equality but the White women take all the credit

Or maybe a prequel type episode where it turns out a majority White women voted for this world to happen.

It's kind of torture porn, isn't it?  It's the kind of show that just makes you feel terrible because you're watching terrible things happen to characters without any agency and you just want to shout at them to stop being such pricks to each other.

Oblig. reminder that it's based on Iran after the Islamic Revolution.  It's not about what *might* happen, it's about what *has* happened, and is still happening.

Exactly. We're now in the period between the appetizers and the main course.

This. Republicans will take back Congress in 2022, and likely take the Presidency in 2024. Especially as Republican-controlled states continue to restrict voting rights, with no effective opposition by Democrats.

That's the thing that a lot of people may not know if they've only watched show.  Atwood made it clear that she wanted to base it on things that have actually happened, primarily but not entirely the Islamic Revolution.  That she set the show in what used to be the US is just a warning that history has shown that anything that has happened can happen anywhere.

I live in Tennessee and I think that our politicians watch the show and aspire to make it happen.

Yes, it's very uncomfortable.

I get the point about Iran, but really, we are seeing a huge push by a small minority (evangelicals) for a christian sharia theocracy. These are sociopaths who have used the bible as their "guide" to disguise their dysfunction (spoiler alert: it's not working, and we can see what they are), but can't help themselves when it comes to cherry picking and ignoring whole sections to bring it all back to their own twisted interests. They want control over everything around them, and the bible is a convenient shield when they are criticized. Of course, in a right-minded society, religion would not be a refuge for the worst attributes of humanity - the British wiped out an entire religious movement in India (Thuggees) who acted against society; the same people who rail against multi-culturalism as protective of bad behavior, think nothing of using tolerance of religion as refuge for their own deplorable behavior.

At some point, civilization needs to sort out basic human rights, and allow nobody, under color of culture or religion, abase those rights.
