The Kid loves marzipan, as do I.  When he was little we always used to put a cute marzipan pig or marzipan fruits in everyone's stocking at Christmas.  Now I just get him a big chunk of marzipan to eat.

Not deathly, no, but I do notice that my knees get extremely painful when I eat pecans in particular.

I also break out in hives if I eat peanuts these days. It's only been in the last several years that I've been aware of all that. I did a months-long regimen of careful, recorded eating, following a plan designed to help diagnose food sensitivities which turned up these things.

Not gonna pull the trigger, but good to know that they won't make an assortment by cutting individual pieces into thirds.  Three selections gets you 35/35/30 and you can change by 5% at a time.  Probably the right call to have the rum nougat be the short one.  They're more work to eat.

My wife developed severe food allergies suddenly about 4 years ago. Had no explanation why, but a lot were her favorite foods. She did get some kind of specialty shot she would give herself one else a week that was supposed to quite the allergic response down a lot - and it did, but there was some stuff like avocados (which she loved) that she was scared to eat because the reaction to those was severe.

My governor is an idiot.

Few weeks ago she awarded a contract to Microsoft to create a portal for vaccination.
A week later she cancelled the contract.

Today she announced that the state will have one up and running tommorow.

Here is the kicker.....

"But I want to be clear, you cannot schedule an appointment on this site or register to be contacted when scheduling is available, but it will connect you to a provider for scheduling in their system," Reynolds said.

Nothing like our state government being hands off on vaccines.

My governor is an idiot.

Each of the 99 Iowa counties has a variety of vaccine options - from using a health department website, to a pharmacy, to their doctor.

Older Iowans without a computer have been told to call its own area agency on aging or the general information line 211.
But those organizations can't make a vaccine appointment.

Very confusing. The state has put counties in charge of vaccinations.  They are sending counties doses calculated by population. But the state has ruled who gets it first, 2nd etc.  One criteria is age.  When sending the doses to counties, they aren't going by age population, just population.

I also find it confusing why pharmacies are requiring people to bring their insurance card or medicade card. Hospitals and county health doesn't require that.
So does that mean pharmacies are charging for the vaccine?

In my town of 300, I have only heard of 3 people getting the jab.  Those are health care workers. I know 2 people in their upper 80s who haven't heard on getting a shot.

Hell, my post master today told me she isn't going to get one. She's heard things bout the vaccine.

sigh

Supply of the vaccine is provided at no charge, but healthcare providers can charge for the administration (there's cost associated with needles and syringes and rent and lights and personnel to jab the arm).

I have Kaiser, which normally is strict HMO with care payable only at a Kaiser office, but the big healthcare systems are all cooperating to get vaccines in arms as quickly as possible so are telling people to get the jab wherever.  They took Mr. Dallymo's Kaiser card info at Walgreens and I assume at some point everyone settles up.

Original Medicare is paying for the administration for Medicare beneficiaries, so if you have an Advantage plan your provider is supposed to bill the regular Medicare MAC for their area instead of billing your Advantage plan.

Really, really think a coordinated Federal effort a year ago would have gone a long way to eliminate a lot of the confusion and roadblocks we're having today, but...here we are.

At least here, at least through the Walgreens sign-up, the form has a section specific to COVID-19 vaccine that says "If uninsured, I attest that I do not have any medical or pharmacy insurance" but it also has a section that says "Healthcare provider only: Individual refused to provide insurance information when I attempted to obtain the insurance information from the individual" which suggests to me that if someone went in and said, "I don't know" or "I'm not telling you my insurance information" they might just go ahead.

In fact, https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/keythingstoknow.html says:

"The federal government is providing the vaccine free of charge to people living in the United States. However, your vaccination provider may bill your insurance company, Medicaid, or Medicare for an administration fee. Vaccination providers can be reimbursed for this by the patient's public or private insurance company or, for uninsured patients, by the Health Resources and Services Administration's Provider Relief Fund. No one can be denied a vaccine if they are unable to pay the vaccine administration fee."
