Hopefully all costs incurred are billed to insurrectionists after being found guilty and not allowed  off parole or allowed to vote until all fees and costs are paid off.  Use  FL republican rules.

Why doesn't Trump** pay their legal fees?  They were there on his behalf.

Oh, wait... he doesn't even pay his own!

Meh, they'll get money back when they successfully sue President-Reject Drumpf *snerts*

"Their trials could cost us millions." Yeah, in that case, let's just give them all a pass for their seditious behavior. If we're that worried about the expense, let's just take the money out of Dolt45's presidential pension. After all, he's a "billionaire" and will not even miss it.

Maybe those public defenders will get them to plea bargain down to felony assault and resisting arrest for their permanent records instead of treason.  Hopefully some will go to trial.

Nobody is going to be charged with treason. Just stop this already.

Maybe they can pray to their god emperor Trump to save them from the crushing burden of legal debt and save them. After all they did this in the glory of his name and they will do it again to further his glory.
It would be so against his character to stab his most  loyal followers in the back, he has never done anything like that before in his life.

They can pay the nation back by stamping plates in our for profit prisons. Maybe they'll have a different opinion about For-Profits prisons after being in the for a while too.

Might even change a few votes.

Millions you say? What is that like .0001% of the federal budget? I think we'll be okay.

I'm curious at what point these asshats will realize that they were only pawns in their god emperor's game of "I want to be the boss for life".

Or is that beyond their cult-addled brains?

Forced ranking plea bargains.

The first one to plea gets to go home free and clear.
The 10th person gets a mark on their personal record.
The 50th person gets community service
The 100th person gets a week in prison
The 200th person in 5 years prison
The 300th is 10 years prison
The 400th person is hanged

Now, the rub is that this ranking goes for anyone ultimately charged for anything to do with the January 6th insurrection.  If you haven't been identified/charged yet, better turn yourself in and plea quickly.

2021-02-25 2:32:40 PM
Much as I hope each and every one of these bozos gets put away for a long, long time (or better, forever!), I'm not going to b*tch about the cost of giving them public defenders, and in fact still argue that they need more funding and need to be much more available in this country.

I was gonna say, "not allowed ... to vote until all fees and costs are paid off" is the Republican way of thinking, but I see you have that covered.

So let me go further and say, "Which is precisely why we shouldn't do it, beyond the fact hat it's bullshiat.  Actually, that's precisely why we shouldn't do it: it's wrong no matter who does it, or why.

"The majority of suspects in the January 6 insurrection could wind up with court-appointed attorneys. That's the cost of our justice system, experts say.

Dozens of Capitol rioters have been granted public defenders. Their trials could cost us millions
"

Don't most public defender cases end up with the public defender spending something like 45 mins per case due to the oversubscribed system, maybe meeting the client on the day of the case, and for the most part basically just push a plea deal so their client hopefully doesn't get railroaded too obscenely?

Or is this another of the many cases where something that has been the status quo while it's been disproportionately  affecting minorities but now that it's affecting the right wing base we're going to see a radically different standard where all these assholes get a fully litigated trial with all the bells and whistles from their lawyer, including forensic evidence and multiple court dates?

The efficiency here is that most of the people committed the same crime and have the same evidence against them.  Each individual doesn't need a unique legal strategy.

What is the point of this article. Justice costs money, spending money on justice is wise, it's an operating cost for a free and fair society. When I think about wastes of taxpayer dollars I never begrudge anyone fair legal representation in defense of justice. No what I'm afraid of is not that we will spend too much defending these lunatics, it's that we will spend too little investigating and prosecuting the ringleaders.

That's really up to the defendents tbh

So, the government that they were trying to overthrow, demands that they receive an adequate defense of that sedition.

The irony is off the meter.

2021-02-25 2:49:25 PM
Everyone deserves the best legal representation they can afford.

If they, like the other 150+ million Americans who live hand to mouth can not afford it, they should be granted a Public Defender.

So how much lawyer time will each of these clowns get? What if they refuse a plea and insist on a trial? How much time would you be able to devote to preparing for trial?

2021-02-25 2:55:26 PM
It costs whatever it costs.

We don't have a problem with spending trillions on military equipment the military doesn't want or need, surely we can afford a few hundred million dollars to adequately defend our democracy right here and now.

2021-02-25 2:56:17 PM
I want them to have a fair trial. Most will plead down but will most likely never legally be able to own a weapon and that in and of itself makes me smile.

I do understand exactly what i wish for here.
the two of you that both made this example, consider it a bit more and maybe you will see that, yes this is exactly what i am wishing for.

As now we not only need to tell the truth, but as i said it before, we now also have to be able to hear it too.

Agreed. Everyone deserves a fair trial.

Even traitors.

The idea that anyone would suggest otherwise is disgusting. Without it, countless more people would be locked up and thrown away without a chance just because they seemed vulnerable or poor and some scumbag wants a closed case, which already happens enough.

It is a constitutional right afforded to all criminal defendants in the US. They should be provided lawyers if tgey cannot afford one.

That said,
