Of course not. This was days ago. It greeted the ground long ago.

Oh for god sakes it was a part of a United plane. Probably an engine, but might have been the landing gear, tail, wing, economy section.

With the rash of rocketmen in the last few months, I think it's pretty obvious what's going on: the government has hived out a whole load of new contracts for classified experimental aviation tech to the numerous new private space companies, beyond the usual Boeing/Lockheed etc.

And they are pretty crap with the classified testing protocols.

It's always within a few hundred miles of Space X/Blue Origin facilities.

Are you suggesting that the commercial airline pilot reported this in real time (presumably backed up by other cabin crew) and was... just making it up?

The likely explanation is classified experimental US aviation tech (or even Russian/Chinese spy tech).

I bet it was a balloon.  A novelty helium balloon.  Or maybe a small zero pressure weather balloon that hadn't fully inflated.

One time my father was flying his plane and he saw a hot air balloon in the distance, so he decided to go take a look.  So he turns toward it, and after a little while, it whizzes past him at unimaginable speed.

What he thought was a hot air balloon off in the distance was actually a helium party balloon that was much closer.

It's hard to judge size and distance if you don't have a good frame of reference.

No, I'm saying everyone who thinks they saw something doesn't mean it's aliens, or that they even saw something.

American 2292: "Tower, we did see the object and request radar confirmation."

Tower: "2292, you did not see anything.  While flying near restricted airspace. In New Mexico. You saw nothing, so there is nothing to confirm.  Also, please mark your CVR as malfunctioning and in need of immediate replacement."

And no one on the plane was the least inclined to take a selfie with the large cylindrical object flying in the background?

From the description it was overhead and fast - it's unlikely anyone bar the cockpit had a view of that.

With the price/density as low as it is for storage. I'm surprised airliners arent kitted out with video recorders, both inside and out. In addition to the cockpit voice recorder, and flight data recorder. Even a "non hardened" video recorder would be handy.

I want to say something witty, but nothing comes to mind so I will just say that a lot of long-range drones look like missiles with tiny wings attached, and seeing one from the right angle would look cylindrical.

I live beside a weird air corridor for drones, so sightings of the long range ones are common.

*Also* with these drones, one could conceivably draft in an airplane's wake, and since maximizing distance is a thing with long range drones, I bet this is what it looks like.
