Less confusing than cricket, I guess.

I wonder how often the pitcher gets clocked by the batter?

I blame Vodak and an eternity of dark winters for that.

I coached baseball for years, at pretty high levels (summer high school leagues).  You would be astonished to know how many players can't throw the ball up in the air like that and hit it.  If you ever played any "Chicago Style" softball you would also know that it takes a special skill set.  I was good at this because as the youngest of 5 I taught myself how to hit by throwing pea size gravel up in the air and hitting it with a broom stick.

I could hit a hardball with one hand 350 feet back in the day tossing it up like that.

I remember doing the same when I was a kid in the 70s.

The downside of that is the losing team gets crushed in a 200 ton hoo-drawlik press.

I am a terrible guitar player (and singer) but I can sing and play at the same time.  I am always astonished when much better musicians than me claim that they can't do both.  I am also a shiatty baseball hitter in competition pitch, but could ding toss ups all day.

I have to imagine in both realms that there is some disconnect they never quite worked through.

We play in an international/European softball tournament here in Prague with teams from all over Europe and the middle east, so the first time I saw a Finnish baseball glove I went straight to google and wikipedia when I got home.

International softball tournament in Prague = long weekend drinking trip for most players

Pesopalo (sp).

My wife went to see a game of it when we lived in Jyväskylä. She said it was really interesting, but as she doesn't really know anything about baseball, it was hard to explain the differences.

Pros:  There is far more action than North American baseball.
Cons:  What the fark is going on?

Sure. Link to a tweet so we can have that craptastic UX.  It's not like the guy is a youtuber with an actual youtube channel.  You fail, subby.

Jomboy breakdowns have saved my brain during the pandemic/insurrection/aftermath. No joke - funny as f*ck, short quick hits to relieve the stress. I don't know why but I love this one:

Twitter links are superior in Fark. I can just click on the comment thread and watch the video in Original and never have to open the other tab.

As for this, reminds me of Over the Line, a beach softball game.

Ah, the Finns make you run bases, though, while OTL, you just keep hitting and fielding and day drinking.

Playing on a company softball team some years ago, I was the only one who could conduct pre-game fielding practice. No one else on the team was capable of tossing a ball up and hitting it to a specific spot on the field. I don't think it's a particularly amazing skill-- it was surprising to me. I just thought every kid who played any sort of baseball as a kid would know how to do it almost instinctively.

pasepallo was created after my family left finland for america. the finnish ballgame is an amazing translation of the game i like best, which is baseball.
the essence of pesapallo is reckless fearless baserunning.
game has sisu, unreasonable determination. resonates in my drunken animal brain.
