...though in retrospect, winterizing vulnerable gas and water lines seems more important than criminalizing bestiality or making sure no one's confused that teachers can say "Merry Christmas."

Criminalizing bestiality?!  Are they *trying* to piss off all of East Texas?

Rhetoric, not governance.  Also see "if you elect people who say government sucks, they'll do things to make the government suck"

Mundane goals like securing power and water took a backseat to ideological battles against imaginary enemies.

Baloney.

A storm followed by a report telling them to winterize has been happening every 10 years for like 30 years.

They don't do it because $$$ from the industry and f*ck you, that's why.

They're Republicans.  THEY DON"T CARE ABOUT YOU.  THEY"VE NEVER CARED.  Why does anybody think they're suddenly going to care now?

One way to sow unity in this country is not for Texas to play the National Anthem before any state funded event but to JOIN THE REST OF THE POWER GRID!

"We just saw much less concern with overall governance issues and much more concern with red meat issues that appealed to the base, even if they were unlikely to have any real policy consequences," Jones said. "The point was to signal to the base that you were pursuing the true Republican agenda."

The "Republican agenda" being described in the preceding sentence as "less concern with overall governance"? Which leaves you with the Republican agenda being that of a cultural circus barker.

Fabulous.

Texans need to show the libs by burning down every windmill and solar panel they see and start building oil refineries right next to all thier schools and fireworks factories.

Like it or not, a large chunk of Americans votes for the horseshiat.

Winterizing our power grid? While the libs use a bathroom without having a Christian pastor check their genitals first? Not on my watch. AAAAMAAAAAZING GRAAAAACE

Sadly this is the stuff Fox news shovels out daily. Kneeling, the flag, war on xmas, etc... this is what keeps their base fired up. Nevermind that the GOP literally has nothing to run on, no policy changes, no real legislation to pass.  Their entire party can be summed up with a few scary words.
guns, abortion , socialism and church.

The GOP platform is 'Keep the rubes scared so they don't notice us picking their pockets'.

A working class that actually unites terrifies the Republicans and their hypercapitalist puppet-masters. It's why they've all but killed unions in America, it's why they demonize socialism, and it's why they push bigotry.

Who are these people supposedly being triggered by someone saying Merry Christmas? I'm an atheist. My wife is Jewish. People say Merry Christmas to us and we say it back, no offense taken. Who gives a shiat. Some years we even get a tree and lights just to feel festive. American Christmas is more a cultural phenomenon than anything religious. It would be like if non-football fans got upset people were talking about the Super Bowl in late January.

They want to make sure the national anthem of a country they want no part of is played. They don't even want to be on the same electrical grid! As recently as January they wanted to secede. Wtf.

This right here.

Go listen to right wing radio and listen for the NRA ads.

They are claiming in the commercial that Biden is gonna take your guns, he hasn't said anything like that, and that the state of New York is being a big meanie.

You know a big meanie cause the NRA was pure as the driven snow of the driven snow had a bunch of skeletons and a flipped geo metro in it.

Republicans and the right, bullies until they are not in power, victims once they are out of it.

You aren't thinking with a zero-sum mindset. You don't define yourself more by who you exclude than by who you include, so you don't think that by including other holidays (and the people who celebrate them) you have to reject Christmas (and Christians).

Porous Horace: Merry Christmas, everyone!

My kids public school teacher held a merry Xmas party in class.  My kid isn't christian, so asked the teacher of they could do something else.  The teacher said no.  My kid then told the class Santa wasn't real and that the presents were from their parents.
/Crying, angry parents, and me lmao ensued.

Sigh... it's just so stupid. I've always seen it as whatever holiday greeting someone chooses, someone is wishing you well. Stop biatching about exactly how they're doing it and wish them well back.

It's not a War On Christmas, it's a War Against Christmas, and it's a defensive war.  We've practically lost Thanksgiving already, and the forces of Christmas have been spotted even prior to Halloween in recent years.

The only thing worse than a faux-patriot is someone who actually believes that someone, somewhere is preventing you from saying "Merry Christmas"

When I was a child I didn't know people went to different churches than I did and I had no idea that whole deaths of people didn't celebrate Christmas.

I was 7 years old when I found out that not everyone was exactly like me.

What the hell excuse do these people have?

I've never been to a mosque but in my experience I've never heard of anyone in America being stopped from saying "Merry Christmas". Some people do say "Happy Holidays" because there's more than one holiday in the season but that's not the same as actually being stopped from saying "Merry Christmas". It's a bullshiat made up Republican boogeyman.

Arrested development at about the level of a 5-year old. It's why they throw so many tantrums, and love their country like a small child loves their mommy, rather than in an adult sense.

Apparently my brain is a toaster and I don't know how to use swipe typing.

I meant as an atheist I won't smack you for saying merry Xmas or telling me about your god.

Now if the good Christians could do the same to those with differing views we could move forward.

Can't remember where I heard this, but basically:
Republicans look at America like children look at their parents. Can do no wrong, don't you dare talk shiat about them.
Democrats look at America the way parents look at their kids. Try to help/shape them into decent people.
