I've always been an ecdysiast enthusiast. Everyone knows at least one reputation destroyer.

Nah, I learned it from comics.

I heard all about the reflecting pond.  The DC scandals tour bus stopped there.

I'm old enough to remember hearing about the scandal at the time.

I had to look up "reputation". Sounds exhausting.

Sex scandals were actually a bit scandalous in those days. A bit more than an eye roll and an "of course".

I learned it from Sagan's Contact when I was a kid
More recently learned that it comes from a Greek root most commonly associated with molting in arthropods.

God I'm a nerd :(

Standing near the car - drunk and bleeding - was her paramour, 65-year-old Wilbur Mills, the gravelly voiced chairman of the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee and a man esteemed as a pillar of Bible Belt rectitude and respectability.

Bible thumper and his stripper, why some things never change. (except maybe the gender of the stripper occasionally.)

I remembered her name and that a reflecting pond scandal was involved. I can't remember what congressman was scandalized.

The crazy part of this story is that this didn't end the relationship, and it didn't seem to end the dude's marriage. I mean, he eventually got yanked off of his committee, but that's all. I mean, this is the kind of farked up story I'd expect from the Trump administration and the current batch of Republicans, but wow. 1974...

The Wilbur Mills incident wound up in the opening of WKRP in Cincinatti: "while the senator insisted he was not intoxicated, he could not explain his nudity."

X-Geek: When did Hulk become a Frat-Bro?

Y'know "Professor Hulk" from Avengers: Endgame? That was based on a run of the comics in the 1990's. That panel is from Rick Jones' bachelor party.

Good gravy.  Wilbur Mills Freeway runs through the middle of the city I grew up in and have since returned to.  How did I not know about this?  They didn't cover this in Arkansas history.
