Wait, twenty-three?  If she ends up being Trinity's daughter, I am going to laugh my ass off.

I remember the early, *early* days of cracking pre-encryption copy protection and DRM.  It was basically opening with a hex editor and finding the correct section and fudging it a bit.  It was pretty easy other than going through multiple iterations until your cracked copy didn't screw up (i.e., copy-edit-run-copy-edit-run...).

I can't imagine the obfuscated mess that one is required to wade through now.  Good on her.

Doing this interview was a mistake, pretty sure they raided her shortly after the fact.

DRM should be outlawed.  I have no issue with cracking down on online cheating or theft, but no company should have the ability to alter or even delete digital media post-purchase.

If it was made by a human, another human can and will crack it.

If you want to reduce piracy then simply stop making it so that the legitimate copies are inferior products to the cracked ones.  Yes, some people are still going to pirate your stuff no matter what you do, but those people were never going to pay for it anyway.

Empress cracks them, then Fitgirl repacks them to less than 50% of their original size.

At this point the devs are going to end up doing some form of source code drm that people wont even be able to see, where removing it will just completely brick the game if its missing. While it is annoying, the piracy prevention part of it is completely acceptable

Yeah. Not a good move. She started to believe her own egomaniacal bullshiat and that the horde of worshipers she picked up made her somehow invincible. They didn't. And since she was taking donations I'm pretty sure they'll drop the hammer on her as an example. The only hope she has is if they hire her and forgive her transgressions, but that would mean she would have to start making games harder to crack.

So I guess we'll see how much of her crusade was real, and just how dedicated she was to the idea of sticking it to the man.

This thread is even more enlightening:

Bottom line: Empress was kind of a jerk, despite being a genius, and someone got pissed off enough to dox her/him.

Moral of the story: Don't do an interview to boast about your "philosophies" when what you're doing is criminal, and don't make negative statements about gender, sexual identity, or other hot-button topics while using the same persona that does the illegal cracking.

Well, she has managed to alienate a lot of the repackers (such as fitgirl) for the sole reason of the attention she so desperately craves.

It's my software. I should be able to resell it or give it away, if I so choose.

When they remove this, I'll quit downloading and sharing hacked versions...i.e. never.

Stickied comment in that thread is that it's faaaaake.

/And do police generally notify arrestees that they'll be around in an hour for them, and that it's cool for them to post on reddit in the interim?

Whatever happened, I think it's safe to say Empress is probably a nutter.

I don't get the RANDOM capitalization and "quotes" she uses.  Also saying she has no ego, but other people don't have the "focus" she does or her PHILOSOPHY, & would try & take credit for her work.

Obviously she is talented but has some growing up to do.

With all that being said if people weren't buying season passes & doing all the bs micro transactions maybe we could exert some rights on the content that we actually buy.   So screw DRM & digital copies even & good luck to those fighting against it.

Lol at people complaining that it isn't fair that the cracker isn't giving them immediate unfettered access to a game they are stealing.

It's about ethics in piracy

/actually something fatman fitgirl said without irony

One thing about Reddit is that no matter the topic, no matter the thread, no matter the circumstances there will ALWAYS be a small faction of people claiming that whatever OP posted is faaaaake.

And they're absolutely certain of it without having any real evidence to support that belief.

It was likely more about a perceived female cracker not putting out (giving them what they wanted) on demand. If this had been a dude, or someone who claimed to be a dude, it would have been all about supporting his choice to stop those repacker chicks from taking credit and nobody would have balked at it. They'd have been high-fiving each other and posting the results to (ugh) r/pussypassdenied for their entertainment.

But since this person chose to identify as a female, and had the nerve to not kowtow to the men in the room (most of the posters), some of them have decided that any time she mentioned gender or superiority to male crackers (which, by the way, she has proven with acts and not just words) it was a strike against her and reason enough to make the slower-than-anticipated torrent of her most recent conquest a "reason" to turn against her and dox her.

I DO think she's a nut case. Or playing a character. But I also think that goes with the territory. This person is obviously brilliant and talented at coding. She's doing things nobody else has been able to do, and that went to her head, but that sort of genius often comes with the price tag of being an eccentric weirdo... Which she is.

Lots of GamerGater guys in those cracking forums don't like it when women are eccentric weirdos who tell them what they can and can't do. And that was likely the reason things got the way they did.

Eh, I'm skeptical of that. Empress was incredibly well received when she came on the scene, especially with how little progress was being made in Denuvo.

I'm pretty sure if he'd been a male, and still went off on that nonsensical philosophical tangent (and it was absolutely nonsensical, followed up with a list of people who they thought were rude to them), the reaction would have been pretty much the same.
