(Some Guy)   So, my theory is that if you halve the KFC slaw and cut back the sauce by half and then add some BBQ sauce and put it on a Jesse James hot dog with chili and onion, why then you'd have the Martinsville Hot Dog   (crunchycreamysweet.com) divider line

They left out the steps of dropping it onto a greasy floor, scooping it up with a dirty dustpan, and then dripping various fluids from your face and hair into it while you vigorously stir the crap out of it.  Set it in the sun for a couple of hours to develop the "secret tang".

Voila, perfect KFC copycat coleslaw

All snark aside, I'll probably try this.  Back when it was still Kentucky Fried Chicken, I used to buy their coleslaw by the pint.

It's exactly the same recipe as topsecretrecipes.com, except with half as much cabbage.

/I've had the recipe for years. I think I'll finally give it a try. I love KFC coleslaw.

I'm gonna fry a duck like it's a chicken.

So much dark meat I might as well be Lex Steel.

I won't eat anything called slaw.

I swear good Cole slaw is a challenge for people to make right, I swear its either too sweet or overly sauced. Although I could say that same thing about macaroni salad/potato salad.

That's trash fast food coleslaw, Long Johns is the best coleslaw.

I seem to recall that they used to use celery seed. Maybe it wasn't KFC. It's a nice addition though, except for getting stuck in your teeth.

I didn't know where to start, so I made a dressing of ranch, vinegar, sriracha and a touch of honey for a BBQ. Sound gross? I never have leftovers.

I love coleslaw. I'll buy a cabbage head and do fish tacos, burritos and even a carroway seed sautéed dish to go with brats or kielbasa.

I've been fridge pickling way more this last year. If onions, peppers, cabbages are starting to go bad before using it all I just toss it in a container with 50/50 vinegar and water. Saves those ingredients for many more weeks if need be.

Back to coleslaw. Just take that pickled cabbage, drain, add a touch of apple cider vinegar and some mayo and the base for an instant slaw is made in minutes and ready to eat in not too long.

I still want to go back to restaurants so much though. We're almost there!

NINEv2: ///ketchup on a brat? That's a beatin'

oh dear lord you've already got me warming up the baseball bat, do people actually do that?

I know we already did a ketchup thread recently, but... the hell is even wrong with some people.

if some 3-year-olds are that addicted to sugar, there's always ApfelSenf (quite lovely actually!)

//never tried that particular brand, just came up in GIS

sticking to the brief: much as I love mayonnaise, my favorite coleslaws remain only the ones that are all-vinegar, no-mayo.

here's me quoting myself at the Landfill[sic] from several years ago:

"final note: Landfall makes basically the best coleslaw I have ever eaten. zero sugar, minimal vinegar; if there's any mayo in it, that's only because the chef waved the unopened mayonnaise bottle in its vague direction for 2 seconds with some sort of incantation. it is light and perfectly-seasoned, and that is it.

Everyone has different tastes.

The best slaw I ever had was from a steakhouse near el paso and they had pineapple in it. It was sweet, certainly, but delicious.

As much as people hate on slaws, they have kept me alive. When I was driving long distances for a living, slaw was often the only vegetable option available. I like to think that at least that little bit of vegetable kept me healthy.

A local brew pub used to make a spicy blue cheese Cole slaw that was amazing. Unfortunately, they seemed to change the person making it and it is now hit or miss on whether it is any good.

good on you. cabbage is great for fiber, anti-scurvy, all kinds of good stuff. I've even started using plain raw cabbage leaves on sammiches instead of lettuce, it really is quite noms.

I'm not ashamed to admit that, now and then, even a coleslaw I didn't particularly like, I'd still sometimes just dump the entire thing on a sammich and chow down. (of course it helps if you have fries and can Primanti-Bros the hell out of the thing)

I'm not going to claim I didn't enjoy my primanti bros sandwich.

But I will say crispy fries on the side and none on the sandwich would have been better.

Now, crunchy chips on a sandwich, that I like.

I like adding chili cheese fritos to an egg sammich. Mmmmm.

I was in Hungary going to my cousin's wedding in the middle of farkwhere on the Serbian border. My wife and I ordered a duck breast sandwich. They put fries on it. Traveled a quarter way across the globe and I get a sandwich with fries on it. Sheeeeeeit.
