The new iPhone 12 is $900
The new Samsung S21 ranges from $800 to $1,300
Even the Pixel 5 is $700

I think most flagship phones in general have been getting a little out of control.

Anyone else curious how the thieves thought this would go down.  How do you believe that you can sell a gps device wholesale and they will not easily track them back to you.

Disclosure: I just ran a search for iPhone 12 and pulled the first price listed for Apple's website.  I knew it was expensive, but I didn't realize they had a version that topped the S21 ($1,380, I believe was the highest for that I saw)

I've bought 2 of those for my wife over the years, and they never seem to hold up well after the first year.  Have they gotten any better?

Figures this would happen in a Schiphol country.

Came here to say this. Of all the things one might steal, you choose something that's so trackable??

I think they were blinded by size to value ratio and other stuff that has higher size to value are much better guarded.

We just replaced two aging Samsung Note 9's (two and a half years old) with two S21 Ultra's.

$1299 a pop. Fortunately we got 2x $800 off, so it was doable.

/Hope these last as long..

One of the better airports out there. And not too far from the center of Amsterdam. So, if you have a long layover, you can take in the sights.

I agree, but the name still makes me giggle. :-)

I suspect (hope, really, wouldn't be fair otherwise) there are English words that make Dutch folks do a little snicker or double take.

Yeah that 500$ iphone that will last you ten years is such a shiatty deal compared to the 450$ Samdung that will last you 2 before they stop giving OS and security updates, if you're lucky.

I fly through Shphol a lot.  Nice airport, and I am glad I can get a new cell phone there now.

Insert money laundering scene from Office Space here, but how do these phone thefts play out for the thief?  The IMEIs will be blacklisted, so is the scam to just unload them on unsuspecting people, or are there countries where they don't worry about blacklisting?

For some reason I remember Apple having the ability to brick a known stolen, inactivated device the instant it tries to connect to an Apple server anywhere in the world, regardless of carrier.

First thing that comes to mind is not English. In Zurich you have the airport Kloten. Kloten are balls/nutsack in Dutch.

Well, the Dutch word for breeding (animals) is fokken which is obviously where fark comes from. The Dutch love the English version so much it's regularly heard on the TV. The Dutch word kut is the same as that other well-known four letter English word that has Yanks indignant with rage when they hear (put an n before the t in kut if you still don't know the word).

2 years and counting on mine and the Mrs's.  Still days of battery life, and everything works.
