fun fact #2: i once worked out a deal with a guy where i would digitally archive all his CDs in lossless format in exchange for getting to keep the CDs themselves. fun fact #3: his wife vetoed the agreement

she wasn't smart. he was dumb. that's what he got for asking for permission instead of asking for forgiveness.

WFH due to covid gave me the time to finally re-rip all my CDs. I had originally done them in variable bit rate WMA format about 15 years ago, due to the cost of hard disk storage. Bought a 1TB drive this year for ~$150 including the case for it that easily holds it all in FLAC. Also just finished digitizing the (much, much smaller) vinyl collection last week. Scanning all the artwork is taking much longer and isn't as easy to just pop in while attending zoom meetings or coding.

In case anyone is interested in the most ridiculous way to compare circa-1997 hard disk storage vs. today, I made a video here: https://youtu.be/lmkzZH9GbdQ

YOU TAKE THAT BACK!

Sorry I'm late to the party, I had to thaw out my computer. Brrr. Hard to believe a week ago I was almost stranded in BFE Mississippi, have since gotten a new home in warmer St. Augustine, FL, and now I'm back in the frozen West trying to pack up and leave.

Special thanks to whomever here gifted me with TF last week when I was on the verge of a breakdown. Between that and getting a job over the phone on the fly while getting my car looked at it made for a much better week!

ROFL. I have to somehow organize and pack an additional new 300 CDs that I now have that I didn't have when I moved in here 3 years ago.

I hated trying to fit the names of the bands and the songs on the little cards folded into the cases.

Yeah. Most music I was taping consisted of tracks not much longer than 2 or 3 minutes & there was never enough space on the index card for all of them. I gave up in the end.
I still have mix tapes where I have no idea of the contents. On the plus side, it was good fun putting them in & just seeing where they took you.
I have VHS tapes like that too. 3 hours of who the hell knows?
