He's certainly the most assholish Democrat we have around, as far as I can tell.

He may have increased his power, but he sacrificed speed in the process, so it isn't *real* super saiyan 2.

Is this yet another Fark diatribe from the kook-left who are really really disappointed that Mitch McConnell isn't Senate majority leader?

All signs point to yes.

F off.

Why did anyone assume he was the most powerful senator in the first place? He's chairman of a fairly low-level Senate committee, and not even close being the top Democrat in the Senate.

2021-02-11 11:09:49 PM
Joe Manchin is arguably the most conservative Democrat in the 50-50 Senate ...

"Arguably"? Umm.. what is the opposing argument, exactly?

2021-02-11 11:20:11 PM
Y'know how you deal with people like Manchin? You keep replacing Republicans with Democrats, to make the "conservative" Dems less and less relevant.

You DON'T stay home or vote third party because BSAB, or because you want to "teach the Democrats a lesson".

Because people don't understand basic math and logic.

They think if you fail a 100 question test with a 59/100 but needed one more to pass, only the last missed question counts.

I don't know why people act this way, but they sure do.

You have to find a West Virginia Democrat that will beat him.  I'm interested in hearing suggestions.

In the 2018 primary Manchin beat a Berniecrat with 70% of the vote.
In 2012 he defeated his Democratic primary rival with 80% of the vote.
In the 2010 special election primary he defeated two Democratic rivals with 73% of the vote.

Because he's always the first one to stick his dick into whatever pie blue leaning voters ask the Democrats to assist them with, which ultimately kills the bill because getting any Republicans to agree to a good idea is impossible.

Don't hate on him too hard. Republicans target him heavily every term and yet here he stands. Could be the other way and McConnell would still be in charge

Name such a bill. Anything. Along with the documentation that his "dick stuck into the pie" was what killed it.

I'll wait. Because I can name dozens that his help was crucial to pass, including VA improvements, Veteran's Benefits, and the ACA on multiple occasions.

Believe it or not, disingenuous counterfactual attacks from the left aren't more appealing than disingenuous counterfactual attacks from the right.

You also have to find one that beats his republican challenger too. A WV democrat might nearly be a republican, but he's much better than an actual WV republican.

The real place where Senator Manchin needs to be persuaded is on the $15 minimum wage. He thinks it's too far out of step with the cost of living of his state, and would negatively impact small businesses. I'm hoping maybe a minimum wage that accounts for COLAs would meet muster.

But all this caterwauling from the Fark far left about the one guy who is absolutely holding down a seat that no other Democrat possibly could, just illustrates how divorced from reality they are.

Because Moscow Mitch McConnell still is.

Mr.Insightful:

Name such a bill.

I said he sticks his dick in the pie, as in the idea/suggestion/policy push.

But here's two things he killed before the Senate Democrats were even able to seat their majority:

Link.

He is currently trying to kill minimum wage bill:

Link.

And was doing his best to kill the COVID relief bill until he was told to sit the fark down and shut the fark up by his own GOP governor:

Manchin. Justice's response.

Mr.Insightful:

No one has ever accused him of being smart or business savvy.

I'm hoping maybe a minimum wage that accounts for COLAs would meet muster

You think a minimum wage bill that pays $22 an hour in 2025 is going to be appealing to a guy who thinks a minimum wage that would pay poverty wages today is too good for his own state 4 years from now?  Because that's what a minimum wage in West Virginia will need to pay in order to meet CoLA growth over the next 4 years.

What conservatives like Manchin, and you, don't grasp is that the $15 minimum wage is inadequate for the time scale being discussed as it is even in places like West Virginia.  For $15 to have been high enough for CoLA to take over it needed to start being phased in 5 years ago. It wasn't so now the problem is worse, and the correction needed is expectedly larger as well.

LOL. Expanding the Supreme Court like even FDR failed at? Ending the very same filibuster that kept Trump and the GOP from destroying social security and turning the US into a quasi-dictatorship? It's almost adorable that you think that Manchin was the only Senator in the Democratic caucus that was opposed to that.

Hell, even Senator Sanders in the primary said he was against ending it.

He is currently trying to kill minimum wage bill:

False. He is currently against $15 an hour, but is in favor of raising it in his state to at least $11. I already linked to that. Plus, there is the question of whether the Parliamentarian will consider the Minimum Wage to be an appropriate amendment (single issue) to add to the COVID 19 bill. There is little appetite toward just going nuclear on filibusters, for good reason.

And was doing his best to kill the COVID relief bill until he was told to sit the fark down and shut the fark up by his own GOP governor

He wanted to means test the bill, you mean. Not "kill". Got to watch that disingenuousness of yours. He still does want to means test the bill.

Mind you, it's fairly obvious that Manchin is tailoring everything to his own State's economy. $15 goes a lot further in Charleston than it does in San Francisco. But literally nothing you've said is "sticking his dick" in anything. Besides you hilariously blaming him for the exact same policies that Sanders supports, it's important to remind you that  Democrats are coming to him, not the reverse. And he's certainly not a rubber stamp for Fark kook lefties. No matter how much you scream and throw tantrums.

Your inability to comprehend anything except two awful positions is reflective of your own personal hang ups and limitations; it's entirely possible to want neither of them with anything resembling influence or power.

2022 isn't that far away; supporting and promoting Democrats interested in doing good for the country is possible in 3 Senate seats currently controlled by the Koup Klux Klan.  Pennsylvania is definitely going to the Democrats, Wisconsin is more likely than not going to the Democrats, and North Carolina is a strong contender for the third seat since they have been trending more blue every election.

Even one of them neuters Manchin's ability to cock things up, but all three will ruin his inevitable biatch fit over no longer being relevant.

No, moron. It's not my "inability to comprehend" your "positions". It's your inability to accept reality. You have two choices. Democrats are either 1) a big tent party, or 2) a minority party. And none of your petulance, tantrum throwing, screaming, lying, bullshiatting, gaslighting, or other farking crap you assholes constantly pull will change that.

Two things that are obvious. First, if 2022 does bring more Democratic Senators, it will go against all two years in to a new Presidency precedent. And second, if we do pull it off anything, it will be despite you and your little hate-brigade of kook hate-filled tantrum throwing morons, not because of you. So there is no "we" here. Actual Democrats have to fight a two-front war against fascists on one side, and a handful of bozo the rose-twitter clowns on the other. I just hope that our new nominees will follow Biden's example of ignoring the online asshole-left brigade. Because regardless of your prolific screed writing of hate and bile, your numbers are very small, and you drive far more voters away than you attract.

Even one of them neuters Manchin's ability to cock things up, but all three will ruin his inevitable biatch fit over no longer being relevant.

I don't agree with the good Senator from West Virginia about everything, but one thing is clear: he is not the mental child who constantly is throwing "biatch fits" over "no longer being relevant". That's all the kook left has ever done since the primary. I really should dig up some projector jpeg, but it's all too tiresome. Arguing with kook assholes never makes them any more intelligent or self-aware anyway.

Mr.Insightful:

Whenever a hate-filled kook is rendered unable to address the substance of an argument

There is no substance to your argument; there is never any substance backing anything you say.  It's nothing but incessant, angry bleating about who you imagine the real enemies of American democracy are, and every time you open your gob to tell us who you think that is it's just 1950's Red Scare bullshiat.

And when you do get called out for your absurdist, McCarthyesque drivel, as rightfully happens (because fark, man, even Reagan would ask you to tone the anti-communism down a notch), you clutch your pearls and claim it's everyone else who is being derogatory and belligerent towards you.

It's a stale schtick, and no one takes it seriously.
