Never mind that shiat - you're following the decoy!

What about the REAL valuable stuff - WHAT HAPPENED TO THE INK?

Toner is those plastic granules, not really expensive.

Never consent. There wasn't proper probable cause.

I bet if you actually used those cartridges, the printer would scream. Would print 9000 pages per second. Both sides. Now, we'll never know.

So is Apple juice.

Heck, even 'name brand' bottled water is more expensive than oil, which only goes to show how underpriced oil really is.

They're too dumb to know the difference between toner and ink. They're so dumb they can't understand the difference between an ounce and a barrel.

The toner ink dye pigment is expensive. Especially the monochrome black.

And people don't realise, but it takes a huge quantity of white toner ink to print black and white. That's where most of the cost goes.

I hope they didn't use compatibles. They"ll only get half the meth out.

It was obviously used to print counterfeit money to buy the meth.

/that doesn't make sense?
//on meth it does

The toner itself is fine. It's the cartridges that are expensive. Each one is hand-crafted by monks in Tibet and only fits a single printer.

While 3 is funny, the fact that the actual number is only 10 is hilarious.

I bought an Epson printer with the ink bottle refills. It took more than a whole year to run out of black ink, and my wife used it for her business. Y'all guys need to get one.

$30 for about 7 grams of inkjet ink is $121.50 per ounce or $1944 per lb. Compare with silver at $26 per ounce and platinum at $1123 per ounce.

I ditched my inkjet 20 years ago.  Got 15 years out of a Brother laser printer and two cartridges. I only replaced it because it was cheaper to buy a new printer than it was to get a wifi adapter for the old one.  Another Brothers, naturally.

Some cartel accountant is going to be really pissed when he figures out the street value of the toner was more than the value of the meth they replaced it with.

I got a broken HP LJ5 for free (picked it up off the porch of a legal office). Put $250 into repairs (drive gears and rebuilt fusef assy), upgrades (maxed the memory and added a $20 network card off ebay) and a refilled toner cartridge. It prints beautifully and draws 7w in sleep mode. Always ready when I need it and was easy as pie to work on. Even found 2 NIB HP toner cartridges at Goodwill for $15 apiece, so I'm set for life (and probably well after).

If I hadn't found it, I was going to buy a Brother. My son has one and it just works.

We switched to Brothers for our office a couple years ago.  Used to be all HPs but their printers have been junk that dies after about a year for at least the last decade.  The Brothers have been hit or miss, but more hits than miss.  From the one's we've bought I say 4 out of 5 are still going strong after a couple of years, with the fifth crapping out in less than a year.

The old HPs like your LJ5 were solid.  We had several very old HPs that we stopped using just because you could no longer get drivers for them that would work in Windows 10.

While it's fun bagging on companies that make printers and ink, is anybody really buying the story on how they found the meth?

I want my own K9 named Bullshiat who is highly trained to sniff out parallel construction.

Funny you should mention that!

I run Linux at home, but also have a work PC running Win10. The work PC suddenly (after a work managed update) stopped seeing my printer. Turns out, HP has changed the PCL5 drivers so they no longer work with the old LJ5. They still supply a PCL5 driver, but it throws an error when used with the old LJ5. And they have deleted the earlier revs off their website.

Now, a conspiracy theorist or HP hater might think that this was deliberate, to force users of the older but better HP printers to upgrade to the newer models, which allow HP to remotely "expire" cartridges. I couldn't possibly comment.

Google found me a site with an archived version of the earlier PCL5 driver which works fine with the LJ5, and Win10 has no problem loading it, so i am up and running again!

Here is the location from which you can download a Windows 10 driver for the HP Laserjet 5, which will allow it to work again.

We had the opposite problem.  Had some Brothers (an end user model, a production model, and a color production model) and the longest any lasted was 2 years.  The HPs, we have a couple of production models that are 10 years old, a couple that are 6, and several in the 2-4 range.  All of theirs that were aimed at home users only lasted a year though.

Well yes (and somebody's already made the obvious jokes about "so it's cheaper than real ink".)

Opiates in particular - a few years back I was in Canada, and bought a bottle of tylenol-plus-codeine for $5 over the counter; if it hadn't had the tylenol added to it, it would have been enough opiates to keep Rush Limbaugh happy for a couple of days.  For the industrial pharma chemicals, prescription Ritalin's cheaper than that, meth's not much different to make.

And of course there's no good reason for good weed to cost more than organic oregano.  Growing the fancy stuff is more work than growing ditchweed, so it's still going to cost more than lettuce, but it's in that range.
