Holy shiat that was good. Great season. Definitely answered one big question I had regarding next season's cast.

Probably be 18 months before it's back.

I look forward to watching this later. Fantastic season so far.

I thought it was well done.  Loved the false stops, knowing more was coming.
Super irritated the option for English captions was not available.   I hope when I go to rewatch it will be back.

Those German captions are usually stuff like signs that are on screen. Of course they can distract from the English since they are more obvious.

That took me off guard. I was under the impression the shooting was all in the can when he got fired and they have to deal with it next season. So either they had a reshoot or they let him complete the season.

I thought it was all of them. Some other Amazon show subtitles for foreign language was in German. I turned on subtitles, set the subtitles to English, and then turned them off again. That worked for that problem, but it does not fix captions.

Interesting. Evidently they are still doing the Laconia storyline, which is setup for books 7-9... which they're (supposedly) not adapting.
I wonder what this means for the future? Sequel series? Movie trilogy?

Just give me more Chrisjen Avasarala, don't care what the series is about. I'd watch Shohreh read a phonebook in all honesty.

I'd rate this season on par with season 3.
1 and 2 better than 3 and five with season 4 the least good.

Mine had captions in Bahasa Malaysia, and English wasn't an option in the menu.  It looks like that happens, rarely but from time to time, with Prime.

Movin' to the country,
Gonna eat a lot of peaches
Movin' to the country,
Gonna eat me a lot of peaches
Movin' to the country,
Gonna eat a lot of peaches
Movin' to the country,
Gonna eat a lot of peaches

Peaches come from a can,
They were put there by a man
In a factory downtown
If I had my little way,
I'd eat peaches every day
Sun-soakin' bulges in the shade

Movin' to the country,
Gonna eat a lot of peaches
Movin' to the country,
Gonna eat me a lot of peaches
Movin' to the country,
Gonna eat a lot of peaches
Movin' to the country,
Gonna eat a lot of peaches

Take a little naps where the roots all twist
Squished a rotten peach in my fist
And dreamed about you, woman,
I poked my finger down inside
Make a little room for an ant to hide
Nature's candy in my hand or can or a pie

Millions of peaches, peaches for me
Millions of peaches, peaches for free

/I'm assuming spoilers are allowed, since this thread is marked as for the broadcast itself, so SPOILERS

1.  As mentioned above, Alex got Poochied even harder than Poochie.  I mean, DAMN.
2. Huh.  So that's what happens when the aliens that live in the gates get pissed off.  Those Martians were weird AF anyways.
3.  Amos' storyline was the best this season, IMO
4.  Nice to see Drummer stand up.  Good riddance to the traitors in her crew, anyone kissing Inaros' ass annoy me more than he does.
5.  I'm curious about the protomolecule storyline.  I thought its purpose was to build "The Work".  Well, that's done now.  And since it can communicate instantaneously with itself, wouldn't it know that and become inert?

2021-02-03 8:21:29 AM
This is one of the first book-inspired series I've watched on television that has grabbed me so completely that I've considered going to the books, none of which I've ever read (unlike, say, Game of Thrones, which I was never even remotely tempted to read). For anyone who's read them -- is that a good idea? Do they hold up?

Good stuff, I do like the character. Whilst I understand that an actor as a person can be vastly different than a character they portray, the difference between Drummer and Cara Gee is striking.

2021-02-03 8:35:52 AM
I should note that my dislike of Marco is a testament to the actor playing him; if you can get people to love to hate you, you're doing a great job.

Also, I should clarify that I might expect the protomolecule to be "inert" in our system, but they appear to be using it to activate other systems long abandoned by the makers.

And boy, didn't Cortizar seem spry and upbeat!

2021-02-03 9:01:48 AM
Good finish to an otherwise slow season. Some more space combat, and Amos pulling a fast one on Holden, haha. Was hoping to get to see Drummer beat the hell out of Inaros, but should be good next season.

Hope the next is a bit longer. I feel like they should be 12-16 episodes total, 10 seemed like a rush.

2021-02-03 9:03:06 AM
Alex just being cut out like that was bad and awkward, I would have rather him be recast and pull a Spartacus.

I wonder if the investigation showed anything to confirm the complaints about him

Do they correspond to the seasons? Like, the first book is the first season, etc.? So if I didn't want to read ahead of where the show is, I could just stop at the one that matches the season I'm on?

Oh that was good
A little rushed perhaps. It would have been nice to have had the last few episodes compressed and this final action spread over two episodes but I will take it.

I wonder if Cas Anvar hadn't turned out to be a delusional misogynist jerk would Alex have survived instead of Naomi.

That wouldn't have required much if any reshooting. The death reveal could just be a slowed down reaction shot, the explanation nust needs a voice over to an existing reaction shot. Remove any reference to him at the party through editing and Bob's your uncle.

The books hold up very well. The first is exceptional and extremely fast paced. I recall having to put the book down to catch my breath.

I also recommend the unabridged audio books. The narration is very good.

More or less. I think season three covers a book and a half. You're safe reading the first five.

Season 1 is based off the first half of the first book. Season 2 is the second half of the first and the first half of the second. Season 3 is the second half of the second and the whole of the third. After that they more or less line up (although some details are introduced to the story earlier).

As someone who is now watching Babylon 5 for the first time and just started season 2, Alex didn't get Poochied nearly as bad as Sinclair did so with that fresh in mind and knowing Alex wasn't welcome back next season, didn't really jar me too much.

I agree with the rest. It was cool to see how they visualized the aliens doing their thing to ships in transit.  I was shocked to see we're doing Laconia at all.  Unless they pull a GoT and the next season is breakneck pace and 90 minute episodes, I don't see how we can cover all that ground.  I suppose if they deviate drastically and Laconia doesn't become the big bad, just a means to wrap up the Ring Builder/Goth mystery could work.

The hard part with that plan is actually stopping.  I tried and failed so kept going and now im stuck waiting for the last book.  Hasn't diminished my enjoyment of the show.  PN, you're pretty safe through Nemesis Games.

with Sinclair, the problem is that the actor Michael O'Hare suffered from some serious mental health issues, and was unable to continue in the role full time. I thought they did a decent job of working around the for the character (which becomes more apparent as you get further along into the series.)

They more or less follow the books.  The books are fantastic, I was reading them before the TV series.  When I learned about the TV adaptation I wasn't sure how they'd pull it off.  They pulled it off.

Amos has had an amazing character development arc across the five seasons. Bobbie has had the second best followed by Avasarala. For all the rest, you could throw their season one version in to replace the season five version and you'd notice no difference.

The Naomi plot the last few episodes kind of bugged me. Don't get me wrong.  I'm glad she got rescued, but they way she had resigned herself to not getting rescued and was risking her life repeatedly to signal others to stay away, why not just trigger the explosives herself and be done with it?

The "other" aliens disassembled or erased it. Holden set it up earlier talking about how he could feel them getting angrier each time they passed through a ring.

In a previous ep, Holden said he felt The Builders were angry. I think they probably felt malicious intent and said, "Get off my lawn!"
