You're so right. Fishing stocks should be completely depleted because the UK didn't want to be ruled by foreign powers.

Never accounted for much in the way of GDP anyway (0.5%) and is an industry notoriously resistant to any sort of change, including changes that will prevent it from completely dying. 

I do miss being able to buy decent scallops though, all the fresh fish counters in supermarkets are gone and there's none on the shelves or in the freezers. You'd think there'd be loads of them available if they're not being tabled up in restaurants.

Bottom trawling is incredibly damaging and disruptive to the local ecosystem. It should be illegal, period.
