A smaller cave next door had been turned into an informal restaurant and bar. "There were bottles of whisky and other spirits behind a bar, tables and chairs, a pressure-cooker for making couscous," the spokesman said.

A cous-cous speakeasy? If they outlaw cous-cous, only outlaws will have cous-cous!
2004-09-08 02:32:27 AM
Cous-cous is nasty.
2004-09-08 03:16:28 AM
Anyone seen any photos of this?
2004-09-08 04:28:44 AM
Photos? Hell, the movie will be out Autumn 2007.

Police in Paris have discovered a fully equipped cinema-cum-restaurant in a large and previously uncharted cavern underneath the capital's chic 16th arrondissement.

What the HELL is a cinema-cum-restaurant?

Do I even want to know?

"There exist, however, several secretive bands of so-called cataphiles, who gain access to the tunnels mainly after dark, through drains and ventilation shafts, and hold what in the popular imagination have become drunken orgies but are, by all accounts, innocent underground picnics."

I always seem to confuse picnics with orgies too.

/got nothing

No "vampire" references yet? Are you people sleeping?
2004-09-08 06:56:34 AM

When the police were asked to comment further on the activities of the Perforated Mexicans, the answer was, "I don't want to talk to you no more, you empty headed animal food trough wiper. I fart in your general direction. Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries."
2004-09-08 07:06:23 AM
They were screening Jerry Lewis' early blue work.
2004-09-08 07:07:42 AM
Thats well cool. Anyone know anyone *wink* in the know, next time I'm in Paris?
2004-09-08 07:13:14 AM
This is cooler than artic commando James Dean, we're talking ultra-cool.
2004-09-08 07:14:30 AM
don't try to find me, either.

clicking on my fark id is cheating.
2004-09-08 07:16:24 AM
My mother discovered porn mags under my bed when I was a kid. This is WAY cooler.

I really doubt anyone dorky enough to climb through drains, and ventilation shafts for fun is going to have an easy time getting enough chicks together for a drunken orgy.

Someone probably set up the theater and bar out of boredom after their magic-user reached the 18th level.
2004-09-08 07:19:33 AM
Stands to reason that the French would like to have some underground entertainment as often as they stick their heads into the sand...

...still give it a thumbs up.
2004-09-08 07:21:43 AM
At work, can't do GIS for cum restaurant.

Then again, I probably don't want to anyway...
2004-09-08 07:23:42 AM
Between this and Pere Lachaise Cemetery, Paris seems like the perfect holiday spot for angry teen goths.

/I never asked to be born
2004-09-08 07:29:32 AM

BOREDOM? After reaching 18th level? That's when you get access to 9th level spells, including Wish. That's just when things start gett

/sorry. So very sorry.
2004-09-08 07:30:14 AM
OK I want one.

/goes to buy a spade from Homebase
2004-09-08 07:32:58 AM

I found an underground tunnel in the city where I live. There were these kinda goth/kinda grungy older crazy people sleeping in there with bottles of ten high and night train. I think it is a cult of people who believe that asking for money is the only way to appease thier cult god. All you have to join thier cult is quit your job and drink alot...sounds pretty good.

You never know what you'll find in these hidden underground tunnels.
2004-09-08 07:41:04 AM
Wow. That's so awesome.

I never thought I'd say this, but I want to go to France.
2004-09-08 07:42:04 AM
Have been to Paris Catacombes
(the tourist section al least)

Lots of bones.
2004-09-08 07:42:32 AM
No meth lab references yet?

I remember that story about the LSD lab inside an old missile silo in Kansas.

If I were guarding the secret entrance I would put this sign up to scare away intruders:

orgies? I just don't see "Hey Baby, wanna see my cave? I will feed you much cous-cous and bourbon..", as a workable pickup line.

/got nothin'

France surrenders.

/got nothin'

They're always uncovering cool stuff in NYC. Several years ago they found a subway station with chandliers ans a grand piano. Far as I know, they've never found a wallof skulls and bones. Wait a minute. Skull & Bones? France? I *knew* there had to be a connection.
2004-09-08 07:50:57 AM
"What the HELL is a cinema-cum-restaurant?"

cum \KUM; KUHM\, preposition:
With; along with; combined with; -- often used in combination.
2004-09-08 07:51:16 AM
if you were a chick, and said, "hey baby, wanna see my cave?" It would work. I wouldn't even need the burbon(a bonus for sure) or the cous-cous(unless that is slang for reefer).
2004-09-08 07:52:22 AM
Sounds cool to me. A theater not filled with screaming kids or ringing cell phones (doubt signal would go thru that much rock) that shows some old movies and probably some movies that aren't your typical hollywood trash.

Sign me up.
2004-09-08 07:53:32 AM
I actually went down there (not in the tourist section I mean).
We even played a live post-apocalyptic RPG all night long once... we were around 80 nerds all dressed in mad max like costumes roaming everywhere with mining lights.
That was fun, especially when we met people who weren't part of the game (not many of those though, we just met a few rappers, couple of punks and a freak playing guitar alone in the dark).

We had a fondue too down there (so this was a picnic, not an orgy, sorry)
2004-09-08 07:56:28 AM
on second thought...I might need the burbon, depending on your looks...
2004-09-08 07:57:28 AM
Collateral now playing at theatre 3 at the Skull Tunnel 6. I just can't decide which show to go to, 2:20am or the 4:10am.

"Cous-cous is nasty."

Not when it made the New Orleans way, its yummy.
2004-09-08 07:58:21 AM
There's groups of Urban Explorers that go down there, but they take it really seriously.
You can check out their section on the Paris cacacombs, it's worth the cut and paste.
2004-09-08 07:58:40 AM
sounds like a hella-wicked-cool place
2004-09-08 08:00:09 AM
There are loads and loads of people into 'urban exploration' who have internet sites. It's really fun to see what they've found, without the danger of being caught or dying yourself.

I tried some similar stuff as a kid, breaking into old abandoned places, and the fun I had in them is one of my fondest memories.

This Paris thing is about as cool as you can get.

2004-09-08 08:05:53 AM
I like seasoned cous-cous. I also like seeing my link approved.

"Do not", it said, "try to find us."
2004-09-08 08:08:25 AM
If they weren't causing any trouble, then leave them alone. Make them pay for their power consumption, tho. I find that very interesting. Cool, even.

However, it still doesn't make me want to go anywhere near most of Europe, and especially France.

2004-09-08 08:11:38 AM

Nice one!

Would be cool to check out the non-tourist section
2004-09-08 08:13:53 AM
I knew something was wrong with the French; couscous is an act against god.

Underground movie theatre? That's nothing! I hear they got underground trains running around underneath Paris, probably driven by ghost vampires or such, how freakin cool is that!
