"I have a competing vision for Republicanism," Gaetz told reporters this week. "I believe that we ought to embrace the spirit and style of President Trump."

"I believe that we ought to embrace the spirit and style of President Trump."

Yeah, do that. It's much better that you're open about being evil, power mad assholes than if you go back into the closet about it.

Makes a much clearer choice for voters.

Um, no. Gaetz is the one who gets gas pedaled, always.

So Republicans purge their undesirables in order to go even further right, those purged either form a third party or pull Democrats even further right, and the country itself goes further right? Yeah, that sounds fan-farking-tastic.

Hopefully either Democrats or the DOJ get off their asses and start enforcing consequences. Republicans are hard at work enacting their plans while the opposition is once again taking a nap. Business as usual in the US.

Gaetz is such a bottom. He desperately wants approval from his strongman. He wants to be ruled, lorded over. Trump's quote about him, featured in Gaetz's Twitter profile, doesn't take away the sting, the hurt, of that time Trump called him "Rick."

He wants big daddy to love him, to remember him, to value him, the man who would overthrow America's democracy for him.

Much like the federal government makes the drinking age 21 by refusing to give highway funds to states that don't have it at 21...Biden should just refuse COVID relief funds/vaccines to states that dont enforce mask mandates and bans on large gatherings.

While the top of GOP leadership is just as much terrorists as the bottom, I am surprised that senior members and those with actual "clout" nationwide are allowing these freshmen or newbie congresscritters to shiat all over the floor.

Maybe smack these biatches down if you ever want to gain any semblance of normality and try to shake off any Dotard stink, or your party will probably be divided for at least a decade and be in jeopardy of never winning a national election again for the foreseeable future.

I honestly don't get this mentality. Yeah it got the GOP more votes than they've ever had... and it also got the Democrats more votes than they've ever had AND 8 million more than the GOP.

I still believe within 6 years we won't have to worry about either Trump or Mitch being alive. I know typically evil lives forever, but the stress they both will have to work out dealing with the fallout of the last 4 years will likely kill them both.

What realistically do you expect them to do? Being a raging ass hole isn't against the law. I'd be serving a life sentence.

Saying "the coup attempt didn't go far enough" isn't even against the law.

It's craven posturing to keep the momentum of the Republican Party stoked and riled up. Which also isn't against the law. It is wildly dangerous though.  So the DOJ is persona non-grata against these officials. It would have to be handled in house by the Republican Party to start doling out punishment and that means tamping down on the energy and enthusiasm for zealous blood spilling and could cost them their cushy seat where they are as responsible for the damage being done to this country as the Democrats.

The Democratic Party can only say "these ass holes tried to murder us, and the party leadership is all for it in enabling more attacks" until their throats are raw but until the citizens of the United States start demanding better representation they are going to be at risk and in danger until the extremist elements are neutered. And you do that by getting people back to work, and making real money for them selves.

Expel them from Congress. Prosecute them. There's a lot that Democrats could do that they're currently not doing, although to their credit they're talking about potentially maybe doing something about all of this, which is a significant step forward from their usual handwringing about the problem and providing no solutions at all.

Best I can figure based on my dad, some republicans think politics is a zero sum game and the only way to win is total solidarity with the party, no matter what. Since Trump 'won' in 2016, Trump is a winner for them, despite the mounting evidence to the contrary.

I would say it's the same mentality behind sports fans, but... fark, even sports fans turn on their team's coaches after fark ups on this scale.

The well is already poisoned, though. It doesnt matter if they die. There are plenty of younger successors who drank deep at the trough. Its not the people that need to be beaten, its the ideology.

We saw it play out with Charlie Rangel who was caught influence peddling for millions of dollars. And while a great symbolic victory, did nothing ultimately to punish a member of the house ways and means committee who retired. And these people would just stick it in their hat like a feather to signify they are representing their voters will by resisting against the tyranny of the state.

If expulsion is what you want, then you need a LOT more republicans to agree, and they don't want to castrate their own base. Because they're all in on the scam.

The only thing the dems and the left can do is to keep going out and sticking the stink on the GOP. Keep it fresh in the minds of the people that the country was nearly lost to these ass holes and that we as a nation deserve better.

Hopefully it's all in the works. The most guilty ones aren't acting repentant at all, in fact in many cases they seem to be doubling down on their sh*tbaggery. For that alone something should be done.
