Bug Out, the season 5 premiere is the high water mark for me for the show. Potter is fully established, Burns hasn't quite jumped the shark yet, and it's funny and dramatic at the same time.

Deal me out did introduce Sam Flagg (though not by name) and the world was better for it.

Had to google that one. It featured an early-career appearance by John Ritter

You all ever see his stuff where he talks to scientists? Every minute he looks like a kid who gets to operate the cotton candy machine.  Pure joy. It's really something and very infectious.

I vaguely recall my Ps dropping everything to make sure they caught the finale. No DVR, hell no VCR. If I remember right they didn't rebroadcast it for like 15 years or so? I remember fox making a big deal of it when they did.

Besides his working for various gov't agencies (allegedly), the back story on why Flagg doesn't laugh may be one of the best & horrific things ever.

Agreed. Easily one of my favorites, and a great way to get folks into a game of poker!

/I honestly learned to love poker from MASH and still insist on aging five card everytime instead of texas hold em. Bah!

Obviously cherry-picking but some later examples: No Sweat, season 9, Potter stoned on sleeping pills. Sons and Bowlers, season 10, blue pee and bowling. The Joker is Wild, season 11, the prank of all pranks from BJ on Hawkeye.

When Hawkeye's hair stared going gray and Margaret glammed up.  Still a few good episodes up to season 11, but it was getting hard to believe this was taking place over only three years of that war.

I saw some nominees for Best M*A*S*H episode above, and they're both worthy.  But if someone came to me and asked for one episode to tell the story of the series and get them into it, I'd pick "Dear Sigmund."  It's a great study of the (now-established) characters and how they interact with one another and how they deal with the horrors of war.
