If he has the power and the people need and demand it, i would day it is paramount he use it. Let the courts tell him no.

Then if the policies are popular and working, run on those in 2022.

This isn't rocket science.

Oh Gosh NYT, is that so?

Where was this concern during Trump's tenure? That's right, you were too busy filling the pages of your rag with interviews from diners in the Midwest so Dems could better understand the economic anxiety of the new Republicans who then flew their private planes to D.C. to overthrow the government.

I'm sure you will follow up with some high minded op-eds on how Republicans need to be willing to come together in bipartisan cooperation and give ground to Dems so the nation can heal? No, you won't? Instead you'll fall for gop calls for unity and fire an editor who sent a tweet showing mild support for Biden?

Oh, okay, I guess I'm going to continue ignoring everything you and your out of touch staff have to say.

Didn't we just get the Secretary of State nominee voted on because republicans were holding up the senate to demand the filibuster remain in place?

It's like the editorial board of the New York Times doesn't understand the peril they have helped put the nation in.

No. They tried the same thing with Obama and that's how we got a watered down ACA and the Tea Party, and possibly eventually MAGA.

This and more. There many key differences to Biden's exec orders.

First, many of them are just undos. The fact that this is possible is a testament to Trump's excessive use of orders for policy implementation.

Second, many more are just directing behavior of his branch, like "buy electric cars."

Im not sure there are many or any that approach quasi-legislation.

2021-01-28 11:21:13 AM
It's so obvious what the Republicans hope to do which is prevent the Democrats from accomplishing anything tangible so when election time comes around the Republicans can bash the Democrats for not accomplishing anything. If the Republicans can get the Democrats to willingly do nothing, the Republicans win without having to risk anything.

There has not been a single Biden executive order that isn't either a direct response to an existing executive order by Trump, or a totally toothless "I am ordering this department to research this issue and offer their recommendations for policy perscriptions."

Some of them maybe, but a lot of this is undoing Trump's particular brand of BS. If the next Republican president is more W than Trump, a lot of this will stand. If its another Trump, well he was too stupid to figure out how to file a an EO that didn't get smacked down by the courts, so I'm not too worried.

I think the true crime is that Biden has been president for over a weak and has not yet taken a single golfing vacation.  It is like he does not even care about the welfare of wealthy golf club resort owners.

You can say whatever you want, but that doesn't change the fact that Democrats didn't win enough senate/house seats to do any of that.   The senate is no more liberal than the most conservative Democrat (currently Joe Manchin).

Remember, Conservatives, by definition, are willing to have no new laws passed for at least 10 years.  They would prefer if new laws could be passed to make things more like the 1950s or 1850s, but they can live with no new laws.  Progressives, by definition, want to change things and therefore have to compromise.  Advocating for things that can't be done is playing into the conservatives hand.

Likewise, Conservatives don't mind if no new judges are appointed.  A shrinking bench just clogs the judicial system, when benefits them.

From this week's Bugle podcast: "it's becoming clear that the Biden administration is going to try and Elvis Presley/Vanilla Ice this shiat.  Basically they're going to take some stuff a black guy did and do it again in a way that offends fewer white people because the person doing it is white." - Nish Kumar
