It's all relative.  That's how far the deplorables have sunk.

I don't know how to feel here.  I don't think that Romney should be praised for doing the bare minimum; on the other hand, doing the bare minimum is much, much more than any of his colleagues on that side of the aisle are doing.

No, Romney is a complete RINO if he does not go on record saying that Democrats are sub human garbage that should be exterminated to save the lives of white Christian babies and guns.

Mitt Romney being the only Republican to do the right thing is an indictment of how shiatty the Republican party is. Lindsey Graham almost got there right after the Capitol attack. He had post-coup clarity. But then moments later he went right back to sucking Trump's nutsack. There's no hope for that asshole, or people like Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz. Opportunist whores all.

The facts laid bare, Republicans are the worst people America has to offer. They are stupid, and if they're not stupid, they're evil. Plain and simple.

It's starting to look like this is the part of the movie where the extremely unlikeliest of allies shows up to help turn the tide.

Well, I hope that he does continue to speak out.  I'm not a Republican, but I understand the need to debate issues with an informed opposition party.  The current Republican party is far afield from that. Someone has to appeal to reason and stop this madness.

Mitt is a typical religious nutjob who only believes what is advantageous for them at the moment. Remember when he pretended to be upset about Libyan consulate deaths?

Mittens really crushes it out of the ball park here by distilling the problem down to the simple basics. Im afraid most Republicans will not understand what he is talking about.

Some clever little programmer slipped a morality subroutine into one of his updates.
It wasn't caught because it's not big and drastic; he's not acting like a saint all of a sudden.
Instead it's embedded in his code, making small changes here and there, and gradually changing how the Romneybot acts.
Time will tell if his handlers can find and delete it.
Good going, unknown hacker.

Credit where credit is due. Romney actually put his money where his mouth is, and was the lone Republican to vote for Trump's first impeachment. He's consistently criticized Trump and the crazy wing the last few years.

That doesn't mean you have to think he's actually GOOD, but he deserves the credit. We can speculate on what his true motivations might be, but they don't really matter much. Actions speak louder than words, he's actually put actions to his words.

I don't like him, I don't want him representing me, I don't want his policy goals to be achieved - but I'll still admit we'd be a lot better off with 49 other Romney's in the senate than one more Lindsey Graham, Mitch McConnell, Rubio, etc. etc. etc.. Low bar, but that's where the conservative movement has set the bar at the moment.

This is real easy. Mitt is a robot and weird but he's not evil (or if he is evil, he's lawful evil), and he has real money and no deep secrets. So Putin/Trump can't buy or blackmail him.
/at his age as a Mormon, his legacy to his kids (and their spawn, and their spawn) is more important to him than him being booed on a plane or even being a senator

Legacy means something to him.

I think you hit the nail on the head here. Even if it is opportunistic moves he's making, and he's in a position to exploit it thanks to Utah, he's taking the long view and he knows the Hawleys and Cruzs out there are hitching themselves to a sinking ship. That and he's pissed off at the dumb as dogshiat masses hijacking his elite power party. And that's about the nicest thing I said about this guy. As long as he roots out the actual violent nuts he can run a failed if dignified campaign against Harris and go off to mormon heaven for all I care.

I have to keep reminding myself why R Money was the bad guy last time.
It's not hard to do, but damned if he isn't coming off as the voice of reason by comparison.

Look! He's not carrying a weapon! Look! He's not inciting violence or suing somebody and none of his kids are even visible!

I bet he wears their hate like a religious duty

kudayta: He's definitely running in 2024.

You think Mitt would be able to win a primary in that basket of deplorables called the republican party?  They'd sooner lynch him and piss on the corpse.  And that's probably a good scenario.

The only way Mitt is running is if Trump manages to literally torpedo the republican party into the toilet and Mitt rushes in to save the day with a new moderate republican party.

But honestly, the amount of republicans left with integrity is so small I doubt the sane faction would be the one to survive out of that mess.

Huh. Because here he is marching with BLM. Are you real certain he is just trying to serve his own self interests? Because he sorta acts like a guy who has the courage to take unpolular stances (like voting for impeachment against Trump) just because it fits his ideals.

His ideology doesn't match my own. He wouldn't be my personal pick to be President or anything... but at least this guy has an ethos.

I was going to respond but I realized nuance was not your strong suit, so I'll just ask, who would you listen to more. The guy that cussed you out and flipped you the bird after you cut him off in traffic or your boy sitting shotgun calling you a dick for doing so?

You can say nothing and refuse to react outwardly.

I know that sounds silly, but seriously, Republicans doing the bare minimum does not require a response from decent people.  We can react when they do something exemplary.  If we want.  They don't get brownie points for acting like humans.
