What the fark are either of them even talking about?  Are they in some alternate universe where Mitt Romney and Liz Cheney conspired to overthrow the democratic government of the United States, and Rudy Giuliani denounced that as treason?

I tried to even, but I pulled my back the other day and I can't.

HerptheDerp: I'm torn, I'd love to see the GOP schizm and never get power again.

Yes, we all remember how the TEA Party caused a schism in 2009 and then the moderates all left to join the Democrats and the GOP never held power again.

Or, wait, I'm getting word from 2012-2016 that that absolutely did NOT happen; that the tea-OP took over like every state legislature; that that teabagger crap is now Republican party orthodoxy; and that even though Qanon has managed to lose all 3 houses (2 in Congress + White) for the GOP while winning two whole seats in the House, the GOP is fast adopting all of their slogans and goals.

Yeah, political wilderness.

It really irks me that they invoke the name of a POTUS who went on tv and admitted that he sold weapons to enemies and conducted illegal wars in central and south america as if it some badge of honor

Reagan was POS same as Trump, he just had better handlers.

not only that, the only thing the crow about is Reagan defeating thr former soviet union and then the current GOP members couldnt get to russia fast enough to work with the very same people

The party of Lincoln was dead by 1877.

The north was the victor and was surprisingly wealthy shortly after the civil war ended.  Efforts to help the downtrodden former slaves become educated and enter the middle class were actually remarkedly very strong for a decade.    Such a hard fought sacrifice needed to show results and results were shown.

Republicans then had to consider another issue.  They had become wealthy and powerful and needed to hold on to both.  The focus changed without evil intent.  But it changed.

Simultaneously poor white southerners moved north, possibly even using the same Underground Railway paths that fugitive slaves used just a few decades before.    Follow the Star became Follow the Money.

That's how you get the people like Gym Jordan being popular in Ohio, a 'union" state now more Alabama than Massachusetts.   The civil war South moved north.

The party of Lincoln died a casualty of winning the war.

Party of Lincoln?  LOL!

"The Republican Party Has Become the Party of Hate"
JULY 21, 2016

(Bruce Bartlett, an economic historian, was a domestic policy adviser to President Ronald Reagan and a Treasury official under President George H.W. Bush.)

The Republican Party today is basically a coalition of grievances united by one thing: hatred. Hatred of immigrants, hatred of minorities, hatred of intellectuals, hatred of gays, feminists and many other groups too numerous to mention. What binds them together is hatred of Democrats because they are welcoming to every group that Republicans reject.

I do not know exactly when hatred became the binding force in the Republican Party, but its takeover of the once "Solid South" of the Democratic Party was the key turning point. When the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts broke the Democratic Party's hold on that region, the G.O.P. moved in to replace it. But in the process, Republicans absorbed the traditions of racism, bigotry, populism and rule by plutocrats called "Bourbons" that defined the politics of the South after the Civil War. They also inherited an obsession with self-defense, allegiance to evangelical Christianity, chauvinism, xenophobia and other cultural characteristics long cultivated in the South.
The Bourbons maintained their power by dividing the poor and working classes along racial lines so that they would not unify for their mutual betterment by raising taxes on the wealthy, improving schools and making government responsive to the needs of the masses rather than protecting the wealth and position of the Bourbons.
The Southern states have long followed what are now doctrinaire Republican policies: minuscule taxes, no unions, aggressive pro-business policies, privatized public services and strong police forces that kept minorities in their place. Yet the South is and always has been our poorest region and shows no sign of converging with the Northeast, which has long followed progressive policies opposite those in the South and been the wealthiest region as well.
The addition of conservative former Democrats to the traditional Republican coalition increased the party's strength in the short run and allowed it to take over Congress. But as Southern attitudes have now completely taken over the G.O.P., its strength outside the South has begun to wane.

https://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2016/07/21/what-is-the-republican-party/the-republican-party-has-become-the-party-of-hate

/And Bartlett is one of those nuts who was in complete denial about the "Southern Strategy" as late as 2008.
//Funny how so many on the right have changed their minds after Trump came along.
///Actually, it's not farking funny at all...

Even better, he appears to be agreeing with Catturd, who seems to be disappointed with the people who have voted against most of the party on impeachment.

We *really* need to reclaim history and remind "conservatives" that the Founding Fathers (PBUT) and Lincoln were *wildly* progressive for their time.

"Originalism" ~should~ be the constantly updated current-day equivalent of the radical progressivism of "so, we're so wildly revolutionary that we're gonna let PEOPLE VOTE (!) to determine the government -- and we're farking hanging loyalists to royalty."  We are going to be a shining light to the world for rights, forward-thinking philosophy, and science.  But, no.  We somehow let regressive, racist, oppressive, fascist assholes claim that they are somehow the "real" "Originalist" Americans.

Dunno how we fix that.  Wish I had Billionaire Fark You Money to start a "Roosevelt Resurrected" counter voice to the Lincoln Project.

How about we keep together the Party of Lincoln, Reagan and Trump and the traitors to leave on the next plane to Gitmo.

That seems to make more sense.

And on the upside, all those traitors can still ask for a lawyer and one can be available immediately.

On the downside, those lawyers will be traveling with them and will represent themselves first.

Some years ago, an old historian friend of mine and I had a debate about when the parties starting switching ideologies. His take was that it did really start at the Compromise of 1877, when reconstruction ended for the sake of getting a Republican in the White House.
