As governmental pressure toward unity becomes greater, so strife becomes more bitter as to whose unity it shall be.

I was told elections have consequences.

But seriously, the right has been coddled for far too long. They need to fark off. When have they ever EVER showed any ability to compromise or promote unity?

Let's unify behind impeaching Trump.

Republicans have shown they are only an impediment. Time to start ignoring them.

It just blows my mind that they're *demanding* that Biden follow their agenda even though they lost the farking election.

I guess by the logic presented as long as a President commits treason in his last 30 days in office he gets a freebie. I hope future presidents remember this as an easy way to make a few bucks as they leave, but selling state secrets.

74 million voters would rather kiss Trump's Toad of the Mushroom Kingdom than have anything to do with unity unless someone makes them. Stop letting the racist assholes be the arbiters of what unity looks like, unless you like the pasty white hatemonger version of that, and make them respect civil rights and constitutional order if they want anything at all from the federal government.

"It was really ironic that he's talking one thing, one game, over here about unity," Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) said in a video posted to Twitter. "And the first thing he does is go over to the White House and do just the opposite, and that is alienate a number of people who agree with those [Trump] policies and want to see those policies implemented."

Carter, who called the insurrectionists "nothing short of pure anarchy," nonetheless voted against certifying the election results hours after the riot, alongside 146 other Republican lawmakers - a vote that Trump encouraged as a last-ditch attempt to override the will of 81 million American voters.

fark you, and your Trump policies, Buddy Carter.

I wonder if the Biden administration understands enough from 2008-2016 to know that they no longer have to take the wailing about tyranny of the far right and the deep, deep concern about unity from mainstream right in good faith.  The right has their own media ecosystem and there's no sense in giving them anything because you can't penetrate it.  They'll just say that you're a tyrant or you're divisive no matter what.  Biden has an approval rating ceiling and he might just know that.

I feel like they get it now.

We should have a national poll-type-thing. Tell everyone to go to "polling places." If they can't make it, we could just include a "poll-type-thing-by-mail" feature. I bet the news networks would cover it & use interactive maps and everything.

Has an approval rating ceiling... and he already hit it. There's roughly 30% of the population (fark, that's a lot) that'll claim they hate biden strictly on the basis of his registered party.

So, if just ignore those pieces of trash, then what we're left with is reasonable people, that unanimously like him. Tell McConnell to pound sand. Or just break his jaw. I don't care which.

why are republicans so against upholding the law and unifying the nation?

because they're law breakers and racist segregationists. once you realize and accept this, everything they do makes sense. and some, i assume, are good people but all those republicans do is stand behind the bad ones and quote the 'GOP absurd but somehow acceptable response handbook'.

Republicans: the speed bumps, detrours and road blocks on the Road to Progress. They don't "do," they just impede.

Yet, eventually, liberal ideas win out over conservative. Look at history: liberal ideas denounced by conservatives: Liberation from England, not having a king, freeing slaves, letting women vote, etc... All ideas that are bound up in that City on the Hill we are heading towards, a better place than now. Liberals want to steer a straight course to it. Conservatives are afraid of "new" and "different" because it makes them do something that makes them really uncomfortable: they have to think about who they are now and try to re-imagine themselves.

Granted, change doesn't always work but we won't know unless we try. We have to make ourselves, our Country and our World better. If we don't, well, we won't know because we will have killed ourselves off.

I think this is true in the long term. In the near term though I think we are going to need to go through a civil war to get any change. The GOP has proven itsself adept at wielding obstruction as a weapon to gain power and a willingness to destroy the country to hold it. They have already achieved minority rule, the country just doesn't realize it yet. It's only been a week since the inauguration and already three state GOP's have completely thrown in their lot by backing QAnon. They are going to hold all three branches of government within a few years, then it will be a terrifyingly short time to Kristallnacht (the recent toddler coup-de-loop was nothing). We are going to have to go through some years of serious fascism before anything will improve.

The right-wing idiots out there have reached a new low, and will likely go lower, cause it appears they can somehow, but when CA decided to take the state off lockdown, they immediately jumped on the "see, they waited until Trump was gone to open up the economy again" bandwagon. They saw Lady Gaga at the inauguration and started posting Hunger Game memes, like somehow they forgot about the wanna-be billionaire they elected 4 years ago. The hypocrisy is mind-blowing: THEY spread fake news, THEY tried to circumvent the US constitution while calling themselves patriots and Antifa terrorists. They whined for 8 years that Obama didn't help the economy while overnight Trump did, despite 2020 not being part of that and forgetting he literally spent one year of his 4 years golfing. Seriously, Fark those guys.
