One by one, die-hard supporters of former President Donald Trump are now blaming him for their actions that day, after being charged by federal prosecutors and facing possible jail time.

Sure, why not? It serves two purposes: it may help get them a lesser charge, sentence, or even not charged at all, and they can see the GOP Senators aren't going to convict Donnie in the impeachment trial.

Since the GOP will not turn on Trump no matter what, this is more a factor in the likely criminal case against him by DC.

Subpoena them one after the other to the impeachment trial.  The GOP won't convict, but at least the non-cultists will see their senators deny objective reality.

It dovetails so well, that it proves they're all liberals, and thus, the attack on the capitol a false flag!

While Trump is going to hold outsized power for quite a while, I'm not suspecting that his base of support is going to steadily erode without his Twitter presence.

Trump-era online radicalization depends on constant engagement, usually online. Trump devotees are still online in large numbers, but without an ability to speak extemporaneously to his followers all the time, I suspect Trump himself will drift from the center of their consciousnesses. I have no idea how long that will take, though.

He's been preaching violence from the start.  Remember when he told the crowds to beat up protesters and he' pay the legal bills?

The other upside is that it forces Republican senators to attack Trump's base to save Trump. Do this!

Dead on

I'm no law talking guy, but what the F does it matter what Trump did or did not say? Being "inspired" to commit some violent act by someone doesn't absolve you of blame. Ask the Manson girls about that.

Also, these idiots claiming they were "following orders". Illegal orders are not exculpatory. Also, you're are not in the military. The dipshiat in chief has no command authority over regular citizens. He works for you idiots.

How does this potentially reduce their charges?

Do I get less convicted if a friend told me to murder my wife?

Actually, 'inciting a riot' is its own crime, of which Trump is guilty. Rioting is a separate legal problem for the criminal committing the act.

it's just too bad the merits of the case have nothing to do with conviction here.

a token handful of senators will be allowed to break ranks, but not enough to convict him despite in any other courtroom in the country, this being completely open and shut

"Here's where he posted a video and tweet telling his followers to storm the Capitol to prevent the election results being made official. Here's video of a massive crowd of people in Trump paraphernalia assaulting the seat of democracy in the United States. So he's guilty, right?"

I'd have paid good money to see him walk 2 miles without have a stroke. Even if he made it, it's just as likely the results would have been the same only Trump would have shown himself to be more culpable. Him being there would have perhaps meant the crowd was more violent, but they would have been met with more violence. The one time they were met with gunfire they immediately backed off. The people that when pressed turn on Trump to avoid prison time weren't willing to ever die for him.

Soon they'll treat him as being too liberal for their tastes and how they "always" doubted him.  They will merely move onto someone worse as they have no standards, self-awareness or integrity in any degree.

Imagine if all trials had to take place while the crime was being done.
45 Republican senators essentially said there's a 2 week statute of limitations on high crimes and misdemeanors. 2. Weeks. Let that sink in. Five people are still quite dead, Are we just gonna brush 5 deaths aside for "unity." It seems like 45 Republican's want to.

They still want to believe that "inciting to riot" only applies to the words at the instant. All the lead up is as smoke in the wind. Or that since Trump didnt say "go riot" he's absolved of all blame.

You know, magic.

There is no way a POTUS would encourage such violence, as in this supposed example or saying something along the lines of shooting someone on a busy street and gaining supporters for it.  He would have to do something much more controversial like advocate for universal healthcare or free 4 year public university education to be labeled as "controversial"

Donald Trump is a biatch, he's a big fat biatch, he's the biggest biatch in the whole wide world,
he's a mean old biatch if there ever was a biatch, he's a biatch to all the boys and girls!

In DC he's a biatch, in Florida he's a biatch, In New York and California he's a biatch. Then in Russia just to be different he's a super bend-over-for-Putin BEYOTCH.

I still don't understand what exactly these seditious a-holes expected to happen AFTER they overthrew the government. All these "patriots" talked about was the constitution. Then they wanted to hang the leaders of the house, senate, and the vp.

That sounds like it would render the constitution invalid. The document is little more than an agreement to not be seditious a-holes. Once the seditious a-holes take over, there is no more agreement.

So what do these people really expect?

I know, I know... cults don't reason

This just in: They're saying that akshully, you can't put him on trial at all, because an impeachment is talking about removing the guy from office, and since he's already left office, it's not only a moot point, it probably isn't even real.

And they know "real."

At least the morons can be helpful, I guess?  Not that the GOP isn't so corrupt as to acquit a criminal president twice, of course...

Maybe we can use it against the criminal Senators who vote to acquit?

Either way, way to prove that American public schools suck.  The President is not a "ruler" that you have to listen to because he says something.  Oh, he (or she) is in charge, but only of very specific things, not your day-to-day behavior.

Unfortunately, that's probably what will be cited to acquit him, even though it doesn't matter.  It doesn't matter that he's not in office anymore, either, but they seem to be hung up on that, too, because any excuse in a storm when you're corrupt fascist garbage people.  If he was Rando Citizen #512 standing on a corner shouting through a cardboard cone, he'd still be guilty of inciting a riot and, in this particular case, insurrection and sedition.

If you don't want to hold him accountable for the extra crime of doing so while leveraging his perceived authority as Head of Government, fine.  Then just let the FBI charge him and lock his arse up with the rest of them.
