Speaking of valve games, the air boat section of HL 2 would sometimes give me motion sickness.  I remember reading that one of the developers working on that had to keep a bucket next to their desk.

Also, some of that crazy swinging shiat in Doom Eternal messes me up.  And don't get me started on those space stations in Elite Dangerous *VR* where the landing pads are all over the outside and the station exterior is like a maze.  By the time I locate my pad, I want to hurl.

Doom is fun, but the new mooD game is to violent and twitchy for my old man reflexes.

Witcher 3

As soon as the tutorial is over I try and fight some mobs by the side of the road and get immediately murdered. Guess I'm just bad at the game.

Destiny 2 PVP: those L33T middle-school squeakers one-shotted me enough times to keep me in PVE for good.

Monster Hunter World. It was my first monster hunter so I went in blind. I tried to like it. Just couldn't do it.

Anything multiplayer.

I just don't have the patience or the time to deal with others.

The only game I haven't been able to play was the Tomb Raider reboot. Something about the way the camera moves makes me nauseous; and I can play VR games with no issues.

Doom.

And several other FPS games like it of that era. They legit give me motion sickness.

And that's very weird, as I don't get motion sickness IRL and modern FPS games I'm good with.  But something about zooming through those pixelated low-res environments make me nauseous and dizzy.

Anything that involves platform hopping or timed driving. All sections of otherwise playable games using those will be passed off to someone else to get thru.

2021-01-27 10:51:56 AM
There are certain section of games that prevent me from replaying it.
Example,Jedi Fallen Order's  f'ing ice slides on Zeffo. There is one where it is near impossible to make the turn unless you hit it just right so you line up with the rope.  Must have failed that a dozen times before completing it. The ice slide where you have to slow the gears and if they are not at the right place you fail.

I rather enjoyed the challenge of that. Stranded Deep is slightly less stressing - more fun, too.

S are a serious problem for me for motion sickness reasons.  Always makes me wonder about how many gamers have that problem and what sales are lost for lack of a 3rd person option?  I would expect someone has done the math and found it's not worth the effort.

I'm not good at the middle ground of RTS.
4X strategy and turn based tactics games are two genres I'm appreciating more as twitchy FPS and action games have become more work to enjoy and excel at these past few years but there's something about RTS that is tough for me to manage well.

2021-01-27 11:02:26 AM
I love first person shooters but I'm getting a bit old and my reaction times are just getting too slow even for the base games and PvP is right out of the question.

2021-01-27 11:03:56 AM
I'm just not an RPG guy. Especially turn based RPG's

The exceptions so far are the Pokemon games, Kingdom Hearts and Borderlands (but that's more of an FPS with RPG elements.

For everything that game does right the slides alone will keep me from coming back to it. Heard they had updated it for the PS5 with improved frame-rates. Thought "oh sweet....oh wait....nevermind."

Controller is just about the only way I can play a 3rd person action game. I can't imagine doing a Soulsborne or Witcher with kbm.

...shudder....

I got about an hour into Witcher 3 before I decided it wasn't for me. I strongly dislike 3rd person POV in games.

Any of the modern "role-based" shooters. I get the appeal of having actual skill and weapon differences between various characters, and everyone having to cooperate to do well. But for someone who's fondest online memories revolve around Unreal Tournament CTF and Assault, and being able to switch tactics (and weapons) on a whim, the whole "locked into a specific role and ability" thing is just something I can't get my head around. (And then there's the whole "respect the meta" idiocy, which of course stems from people who turn literally every game into an e-sports competition.)

Fighting games. For some reason stringing long button combos together has been outside my ability even when I was a kid. It's even worse now with my aching old man hands. I don't even understand how a person memorizes all those long complicated button presses. But to then also input them perfectly while also trying to move and block the other player? It's all too much. I have tk stick with fighting games with simpler mechanics or are button masher friendly.

I absolutely love to watch Dragon Ball FighterZ matches. But it seriously looks like magic to me. It blows my mind what these kids can pull off in that game when I can barely even fight back against a CPU.

Same.  Competitive fighting games have players who look at things like frame data.  How the hell can anyone pick out individual frames of animation?  No thanks, I give up.

Worked perfectly fine for me, but then i never really played console games cause the consoles were always to damn expensive around here for our family to ever even try and afford.

As for games i can't play (and i assume that doesn't include "cause my PC specs can't handle it") i dunno, nothing really jumps to mind as something that literally repulses me if i try and get into it.

This is why I start laughing at people who complain about various versions of Super Smash Bros (especially Brawl) not catering to the competition crowd.

Well, duh, it was never supposed to. A lot of us just want to play a game where everything is simplified and doesn't rely on twitch reflexes. Sure, the current version has more balancing and options for competitive play, but at its core, it's still a game for less intense players.

There are a few of the classic arcade games out there I really enjoy but am VERY bad at.  Sinistar, for example.  Semi-related.  When the speed chips got added to Ms. Pac-Man, I got better at the game.  I can't play it at normal speed at all anymore because I my brain wants to think about it.

Red Dead Redemption 2.

I'm an RPG fan so I don't exactly expect to zoom through a game at a fast pace, but sitting there slowly wheeling a wagon into camp? Twenty to thirty minutes hunting rabbits? What in the ever living fark?

If I want go on a hike, I'm going to go outside to do a real hike.

Where do people find the time to play this thing? And I say this as someone who has put several hundred hours each into Skyrim and Witcher 3.

I thought it was just me.  I get what they were going for when they made the game, I respect it, and I can see why it's as praised as it is, but it's just not for me.  It's way too "in-depth simulation-ey" for me to be interested in playing casually, I'd have to be in a very specific mood to dive into it, but it's way too big for me to stay in that mood long enough to make any real headway.

It's also a shining example of an open-world map that, while gorgeous and a great love letter to the Old West's wide outdoors, is just way too big and takes too long just to navigate.  I can enjoy an open-world game just fine, but I prefer the maps to be a little more dense and packed with things to see/do.  Hong Kong's portrayal in Sleeping Dogs was the perfect size for what it offered, or the districts in the Yakuza games.  RDR2 was (deliberately, considering the locale) big and vast for the sake of being big and vast.  "Biggest map ever" isn't a contest someone should want to win all on its own.

How to be a Complete Bastard. I can't stand using two sub-screens from two different angles to move around. It would have been so much simpler had they gone with an isometric layout.

Mirror's Edge, couldn't even get through the demo before I got sick.

I think it has to do with the art style because I can play Dying Light all day without a problem.

And competitive multi-player, except racing games.

Games don't make me sick at all.

That said, I was unable to finish Witcher 3 three times over the course of the last year or two. I simply get bored. RDR2 same thing, but that is more down to the game being WORK than anything else.

/Loved witcher 1 and even 2.. I just can't get into #3

Oh, and turn based games of any kind.

Younger me LOVED turn based RPG's, Civ 1 & 2, etc. I can't STAND them anymore for some reason.

Anything racing related.  I don't see any strategy beyond 'Hold GO FASTEST as long as you can without running off the course'.  Needless to say, I either run off the course or lose to people who can hold GO FASTEST longer without running off the course.

Cuphead. Once upon a time I could shovel quarters into an arcade machine to learn the patterns to beat a game, but that time is LONG past. I love the look and humor of the game but it's just maddening, and once frustration sets in I get even worse.

A filthy peasant boy isn't supposed to be a killing machine the first time he picks up a sword.  Much like if you were in the situation, you would likely be murdered in quick order.  That is the situation Kingdom Come Deliverance places you in.  It takes a lot of time and effort to get to a place to be comfortable fighting.  It his unfair, frustrating, and a horrible way to introduce and draw players in unless you are of a certain mindset. It was a different approach to a game and I certainly think they put a ton of effort into the world, but it has an extremely steep learning curve and is very unforgiving.

Copperbelly watersnake: Red Dead Redemption 2.

See, and I'm just the opposite.

I have completed Red Dead Redemption one and two 100% and I'm sad that there isn't more to do.

Red Dead and Portal are my top video games of all time

I can't fall from heights in 3D games without getting sick. Otherwise, games like Smash Bros with big flashy animations, random shiat on the screen, shaky-screen, and requiring great reaction times is near impossible for me to play anymore. I quickly lose track of my character and die. Which sucks because I used to love Smash Bros when I was younger.

One trick to Cuphead is to play a boss until you get mentally fatigued and tired, then get a good night's sleep and try again tomorrow. The muscle memory you build typically lets you beat a boss when your brain is fresh.

/some bosses are still tough as shiat
//like the dragon or the ghost train
