It's just layered differently - dough, cheese, toppings, sauce.  Oh, and it's rectangular.  Which matters, I guess.  Because they used to use parts pans from the auto factories as pizza pans, so I've heard.

tl;dr - It's so fetch.

Wait, they used to sell that back when I was still playing AYSO soccer. That was the first time I ever saw Street Fighter 2.

Went to Buddy's Pizza in Detroit long ago for the first time. Thought they burned the pizza. Now I find out that's the way it's 'sposed to be.

Not sure how it could possibly top Jets, but they're welcome to try.

So... It's crispy cheesy breadsticks with marinara dipping already added on top? I mean, I guess I'd try it, but the sauce on top just sounds like it's going to be a mess. Normally the cheese is layered on top to keep the sauce from falling off.

He lost all credibility when he said his favorite was from little Ceasar's. Does he live off fast food pizza? Finally NYC and Chicago can form a pact and drive from east and west and meet in the middle to gang up on a pizza neither likes.

If you've ever had Jet's Pizza, that's basically the chain version of Detroit style. Essentially, it's a pan pizza but rectangular and with the layering of ingredients a bit different. It's pretty good. the cheese is applied all the way to the edge so that it gets crispy and browned at the crust.

I mean, Little Caesar's is a more well-known purveyor of Detroit-style pizza.

/just with lower-quality ingredients
//but it's cheap and it's fast and there's one a half-mile away - two pizzas AND crazy bread AND a 2-liter for less than $20 and with the app and the little pizza lockers, I don't have to interact with a single human being

I think all the channels like his only really do large regional shiat or nationwide chains. On Sunday that guy Dayum posted a video with Chey Butta( a white woman), and the black people in the comments went crazy. Most wanted to know , "why he didn't do black owned restaurants". I had to tell them that these reviewers really only do large regional or nationwide chains, since there are no black solely owned chains.
/I mostly look at these channels for quality control. It's fun seeing how horrid some chains can be in different parts of the country.

admittedly, it was in the late 80s, but Detroit Gas Station pizza rocked!

Nope. I consider Detroit style second best to Chicago tavern style.

And I didn't have it till well into my 20s.

The last time we had Pizza Hut, we ordered a $25 pizza that tasted worse than frozen pizza. Seriously, both Digiorno and even $3 Costco frozen pizza put this plasticy manufactured $25 Pizza Hut garbage to shame.

I can actually recall when they used bulk sausage and cooked it on the pizza. What they use now looks like it was shiat out of a bunny.

...I always wondered how anyone could make a living in marketing, but then I realized people are stupid.  Now that I've got that off my chest, this thing is going to be made from the same ingredients they already had available and that "extra 50% more cheese" they talk about will be accounted for somewhere else because they're not going to intentionally handicap profits.

Also this, I don't know what pizza hut did.  While it was by no means great, there was flavor in there, even if it was mostly coming from the salt.  These days, the hut favorite crust topper, cheese, and sauce all taste bland as though it's mostly oil/butter/whatever other filler they can use instead of real food.

I grew up with Pizza Hut being a treat. Was a bit more expensive than some other pizza places, but it was a "go sit down and enjoy" meal, not just a fill your face food.

Now it's horrible. I can't stand it.  When they started with their "any pizza $10" thing, they went from a premium experience to race straight to the bottom.  Quest for "cheap" was indeed achieved.

When Dominos, Little Caesars and any of dozens of other places beat the heck out of Pizza Hut, they ruined decades of reputation.

bleah.

I work at a pizza hut.  try this the first day it's out and never order it again.  After day 1, the minimum wage dish washing person is not going to be scraping the cheese off the edges of the pan it's made in, so every day after that is going to include a crust of yesterday's cheese.

And those aren't cast-iron, so the side cheese is not adding "seasoning"

Pizza Hut has always been horrible. While I feel bad that you grew up without a good pizza place, tjat does not excuse Pizza Hut being utter sh*t. I really wish people would stop mistaking "oh this was all I had" for being "it was good at the time". Pizza Hut has never been good.

How old are you?
You got 50+ years of experience eating at Pizza Hut?  I do.

I never said it was the worlds best.

Pizza Hut was once decent pizza.
Now it's utter crap.

I don't know.  It's not crap, it's just not great.  If you know what's best to order, you're golden.  It's common pan-style pizza that was once all you could get.  It may have come out on top of the pizza wars of the 80's, but you're not going to impress anyone with it.  It's perfectly fine, maybe my local is just doing a good job, but it's a damn site better than most major chains.

If you want something really good, well go looking for it and you'll find it.  If you need perfectly cromulent middle-of-the-road pizza, Pizza Hut has your back.  F*ck Papa John.

2021-01-28 1:17:23 AM
I should specify... Any pizza I've had from Pizza Hut this centuryhas been substandard. Before that, it was easily mid 1980s since I ate there.
Wasn't too shabby in the 70s.

I remember when it was better. But no matter how good it was, it was always sub-standard.
