The solution seems simple. Don't get in an elevator with four other people.

I've never seen an elevator with windows that open. That doesn't seem safe.

Hospital elevators are the petri dish for all of the things.

drjekel_mrhyde: Hospital elevators are the petri dish for all of the things.

I've caught more nefarious bugs from licking hospital floors than I have licking their elevator walls

Ventilation in Buildings - CDC, December 21, 2020

"Consider portable high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) fan/filtration systems to help enhance air cleaning (especially in higher risk areas such as a nurse's office or areas frequently inhabited by persons with higher likelihood of COVID-19 and/or increased risk of getting COVID-19)."

Note: this is just one of more than a dozen recommendations to improve ventilation in buildings with regard to Covid-19. You can't just plop an air purifier in an elevator and say "problem solved".

I don't want to be in any elevator that has a window that opens.

FTFA:  While the study considered the role of an air purifier, researchers only looked at the air intake and exhaust associated with the purifier. They did not evaluate the mechanism inside the purifier that can trap and kill virus particles.

The most important part of this story was of course the third from the last paragraph.  They didn't model an "air purifier" they modeled a fan.

You Die!: I don't want to be in any elevator that has a window that opens.

But what if you really need some fresh air?

Oh, sure, rub it in, your workplaces have windows.  I suppose next you're going to tell me that they're not faraday cages, do not involve things anchored to bedrock, and that you don't have to be on three different access lists to badge through the necessary doors to get to them.
