I'm not going to write off the whole movie based on one trailer, but that looked an awful lot like a straight-to-Redbox knockoff of Kung-Fu Panda.

I have Disney+, but I'm not paying $30 for just that. For the $30 add Black Widow to the deal.

Nope! I'm 42, and don't want a heart attack after 20 seconds that she'll never remember.

Is this the apology film from Disney given to Kelly Marie Tran after the backlash she received after Star Wars TLJ?  The internet attacks where quite vicious from my understanding.

Oh how I loved saying that line when I was in first grade.

Ever since watching that Jumanji sequel with Akwafina, I cannot help but to picture John Leguizamo whenever she talks, it is like she is channeling the way he delivers his lines and the sound of his voice.

I'm going to pay $30 to see this because...

-- stimulus money by then probably?  I don't SPEND anymore.
-- support Kelly Marie Tran
-- personally thank Disney for bringing Star Wars back to life
-- the months are dark, long, and joyless

I'm not the target audience for this, but it looks entertaining (not $30 entertaining, but still).  Speaking of Awkwafina, I did find Nora from Queens absolutely delightful (the grandmother was fantastic).

I was hopeful for this movie because of the promise of representation for my kind. It looked ultra promising at first, but then a bunch of folks pointed out that even though the story revolves around South East (Jungle) Asian legends, that they went in and cast mostly East (Fancy) Asians. No disrespect to Kelly Marie, but goddamnit so much I was really looking forward to a female Rufio. You'd think that since we're the largest Asian population in the US and sacrificed most of our relatives to work and die in Covid units that they would at least give us some decent representation.

Ah well. Rice is rice I guess...

/Except for brown rice. That shiat has no right to be called food.
//That sounds inadvertently racist...

You've got an insecure animal thrust into the role of "Chosen One", and an overly large character dropping anachronisms like "buttkickery" that are practically Jack Black trademarked property. Is it exactly like Kung-Fu Panda? Of course not, but there's a definite extract of Kung-Fu Panda being used as heavy seasoning.

Hey, at least they're not emulating Shrek.

Why are we supposed to hate Kellie Marie Tran? She didn't write or direct Last Jedi, she just got stuck with acting in it. If anything, she deserves a long string of GOOD roles as karmic balance.

Just like Daisy Ridley and John Boyega do. Cosmic apologies are due all around!

Along those lines...and speaking as someone who HATES Jar Jar Binks.....

Those were total assholes who sent angry letters/messages to Ahmet Best.  He took an opportunity that he would ha been crazy to turn down.

The blame is on Lucas.

Lots of actors auditioned for Jar-Jar, too. If the casting had gone differently, instead of unfairly hating on Best, deranged Star Wars worshippers could have wound up seething at Trace "Dr. Forrester" Beaulieu. And then what would they do? Retroactively hate MST3K and divorce themselves from two fandoms? They'd have had so little left to pin their identities to, they might have been forced to go outside and develop real lives!

a Disney movie. Lots of movies. You should try looking further then skin deep because the two movies have Asian themes.

Pretty much, Hollywood is a really messed up place.

/ as much fun as it is to make fun of the Madea and Tyler Perry, he has the right idea. Make your own company so you can tell your stories.

The similarities that struck me weren't so much "Asian themes" as "Jack Black themes". Try looking a little deeper yourself.

There's three Kung-Fu Panda movies and Jack Black voices all of them. Not that it really makes a difference or helps clarify whatever point you thought you were making.
