They delayed it one year, how out of date can the gadgets be? Besides, most Bond gadgets are sort of absurdly advanced anyway. Oh I forgot, this is the joyless Daniel Craig Bond.

Bond spends a lot of time in hotel lobbies watching Quibi.

I suspect it's commercial products like watches. They go out of style after a year.

Yeah, James Bond is the biggest product placement whore in movies. Omega watches. Smirnoff vodka (Bond should have better taste). Heineken beer. Aston Martin, BMW cars, Sony everything else. Probably missing some.

Curses, now they will have to re do that scene where Bond watches a VHS tape and make it a Laserdisc instead!

"Sorry for the delay, Bond. We had a mission for you but one of our administrative personnel left their laptop with the briefing slides in their car over the weekend & it was stolen.

As soon as someone hands it in to the police - or The Daily Mail report it was handed in to them - we'll let you know."

They should've launched it on Peacock on the $10 tier. Even putting it on the free, ad tier with the 5 minutes of ads per hour, would show people how bad Hulu paid tier ads are.

Just say the movie is set in in January 2020 (or whatever date those gadgets were from) and problem solved.

Oh, wait I get it.  The gadgets are not props for the story.   James Bond actually hawking merch.  Yep. We need a reshoot.  I hope the cast has the power to demand a farkload of extra loot from the studio.

Not "outdated" - this isn't about his laser shoes looking passé. It's about his watch close-up being the wrong model.

What's actually happening is 5 or 6 brands paid a shat-ton of money (Nokia, Samsung, Seiko, etc) - probably a good third of the budget - to have their brands featured. And now there's been one or two iterations of product since.

So that has to be fixed. And fair enough, they paid for this to be made.

Fun fact: The most expensive car Bond drove in Casino Royale was the Ford Mondeo he drove from the airport in the Bahamas. Ford paid millions for the car to be in the movie, but it wasn't in production yet. The car Craig drove was a hand built one off that cost several million dollars.

According to Wikipedia, it seems they still haven't killed the idea for a 4th Austin Powers movie, even though it's been more than 15 years since Mike Myers started talking about it.

I practically did a facepalm in the theater at the end of the third one, when they seemed to leave it open to another sequel. It ain't worth it, Mike.

They made 5 Scary Movies and that turd slid out of the bowl to make crap like Not Another X Movies somewhere along the way. Leaving room for a sequel is just what parody movies did in the 90s and 2000s.

Thankfully YouTube let's funny people do 20 dollars worth of parody for free, and are not 90 minutes long.

If you want to complain about ads, the worst are crunchy roll.  At some points I get just the same ad for a regional company 1400 miles away in a language I don't speak.

Car dealership in Iowa with a Spanish language ad?  Subway in italian?  Kfc ads in tagalog (I think).

shiat gets weird late at night with streaming ads

The worst was in Casino Royale.

"Your watch. Rolex?"

"Omega."

I'll tell you what. When Omega makes a watch with a laser, not a laser pointer, one that can cut through metal, I'll buy one. Until then, not only is that shameless advertising but it's false advertising.

They could make one with different actors playing Austin Powers. Like, within the same movie. Hire 3 or 4 to act the bulk of the movie, then get as many A-listers as possible to do random reaction shots. With digital distribution to theaters, you could make dozens of different versions with random cameos. And possibly figure out a way to randomize which version you get when you stream it at home.

All the ones you see in Bond movies just look like minor variations on the same basic idea, and one's just as good as another so far as I care.
