Creators of cash, like counterfeiters? Because that's the only way, I can buy that pair.

Created for artists.

Purchased primarily by trust fund teeneyboppers, who feel they rank as creative geniuses because they dyed their hair purple and bought designer sneakers to match.

The smartphone isn't for me, but I was coaxed into getting an expensive DSLR about 15 years ago. It was a work bonus with the catch that we had to buy something tangible to get the cash - probably the only way I'd have indulged. No regrets, it's great, still has a lot of use and value. Unlike my teammates' choices, which were all virtually disposable stuff like macbooks, big-screen tvs or iPhone with 2 years service.

This new Alpha sounds pretty cool, but I'm set for a while yet.

There doesn't seem to be much of an incentive to buy the phone, especially at $2500.  But $6500 for a camera with those specs is not a bad price at all for anyone doing video/photo work for a living.

At least Sony seem to have conceded that they can't sell mass-market phones, so they're trying to find their niche.

The problems I see are... how many "enthusiast" creators are in the market for a glorified $2500 external monitor, and how many professionals don't already have one?

Yup.  I grabbed a cheap 10" portable ips monitor off eBay 2ish years ago - USB powered so I can run it off a USB battery pack and dual HDMI inputs, $110.  Only downside is that it's 2k instead of the pseudo 4k of the phone, but at 10" and smaller you probably can't tell the difference.  Not a touchscreen either but believe the seller had a touchscreen model.

Also find it slightly amusing they're up selling the 5G upload to twitch and YouTube capability.  Like they're not compressing the stream so using a $6500 DSLR is kind of a waste.

People that rely on this particular camera would buy the $110 monitor, and spend the rest (if they HAD to) on mics and/or camera support.

Or food.

Or rent.

This. Bird-friendly eye AF plus tracking autofocus for sudden flight would be wonderful, but there's no way I could wield a true 600mm tele anywhere near quickly enough to get most of the shots I want. Sony released animal mammal eye AF via firmware update; maybe they can do the same with at least the bird AF eventually.

Autoerotic Defenestration: [Fark user image image 630x396]

I wanted a good reason to visit pretty places within a day's drive on the weekend and thought about getting a new camera for motivational reasons. This transition period sucks. The cameras we want are too expensive and the best dSLR's are 2.5 year old tech. Investing in the lenses would be crazy. There are always adapters, but who doesn't prefer native?
