S survival horror games just don't do it for me. Loved the RE 2 remake and would like to see them do the same for RE4 and Code Veronica.

Amateurs.  That's like 1/3 the cost of a Star Citizen ship.

I played through the demo last night. Liked it. Looks great on PS5. May have to pick this one up.

Disclaimer....I chicken out after a couple hours of the previous FPS RE.

I read the headline and thought, "Oh, it's gotta be something insane like $500."

$1800? Hahaha, wow. I don't know who is going to pay that much for it, but it won't be me.

I still keep meaning to try 7 now that it's on Game Pass. Resident Evil has become a franchise I just absolutely love to hate. RE4 was great, but even then it started getting wonky. All the movies were just terrible. Started out so awful that I was surprised there was a second and they just kept getting worse. I should get ripped and marathon them again.

And I thought the Dead Or Alive series was bad with its over-$1000 DLC.

Is it just me or are game companies shooting themselves in the foot with their pricing schemes? They've got a literal captive customer base. The companies could keep themselves a steady income source or price gouge and elicit enmity. Then again, I've only done business analysis for everyone but gaming companies.

Because whales are the only ones that dump money on expensive things or rerolls for gacha games with anime girl jpegs.

I will say 7 feels like a different beast from the rest. I also admit I only touched RE2 back on the PSX so my personal experience with the series is lacking, but RE7 definitely feels more Silent Hill-ish than anything prior in its own franchise.

For that price it had better come in Chris "I ate the rest of the BSAA" Redfield size.

well the obvious excuse for that price is the coat though details on what the coat is made from is missing from the article so it's had to judge it's value.   That said even so the $1800 price tag to me is extremely difficult to justify.

that said no chance i'd buy any version of said game as i am not a fan of RE or  the survival horror genre in general.

The increasing wealth gap means, silly as this shiat is, they probably make enough  bank on these super deluxe offerings to make them entertaining enough to continue, even though their actual revenue is probably loot crates and meticulously animated boob DLC.

And this is Japan, too. 100,000 of that is probably just the coat and a mark-up because it's branded not generic. The other 92,839 of that is the figures, custom book, tiny weapons, and the games themselves are probably 20 yen a pop

It looks like a nice coat, but maybe for a tenth of that price, and even then I have a naval surplus one that looks better and actually functions as a coat (does the resident evil one even have buttons?) Then again it isn't meant to be used

I really want to like the Resident Evil series. However, I have three problems.

1, the cutscenes. Sir? Are you ok? Sir? (Me yelling, "Shoot them now! Right now! It's an obvious trap!").

2, carrying capacity. You need a random item from scene 6 to complete an action in scene 19. By that point, you already ditched the item for weapons/ ammo because you are facing monsters.

3, making your toon control like an RC car. The directional controls are severely counterintuitive especially in combat.

Regarding 2:
Inventory management puzzles do not give me replay value out of games. Instead, it makes me look to a game guide for the optimized way to beat the game with the best equipment and achievements possible in a given walkthrough. I will never use the interesting gun with low ammo in that scenario because I have to hold on to half a subway token required for opening up an entire side quest in act 3

It's a conspicuous consumption item.

Artificially inflating the price is a feature, not a bug.  What someone buying this is actually buying is that price tag, the actual items are a cheesecloth-thin defense intended to be just complex and hard-to-assess enough that the person you show off the $1800 price tag to won't immediately call bullshiat and cause the conspicuous consumption flex to fail.

This is why collectors editions tend to feature mostly items whose "normal" price wouldn't be immediately apparent in the first place, like off-sized sculptures and clothing.  People are used to clothing having an absurd price range, so they can't look at that 5$ of materials in a jacket sewn by a random Chinese or Maylasian slave for an additional 10 cents in lots of 1000 and say it isn't legitimately exclusive and expensive, and if they make the miniatures the wrong size for standard wargaming no one can say they shouldn't be valued as art objects instead of compared straight across to the 10$ packs of lead minis you can get at the game store.  I mean, no one will seriously believe the value either, but you only need plausible deniability, not real deniability.

So being like "holy shiat, everyone look at how expensive this shiat is" is both misunderstanding the purpose of this on a fundamental level and, in some way, falling for the trap.

// I have now posted a serious-answer style post involving the psychology of consumerism and the social dissociative effects of excess wealth in a thread about video games doing stupid marketing stunts.  Do you think this is boring and pedantic?  FOOL.  THIS ISNT EVEN MY FINAL FORM.

1800 will get you a coat like that, bespoke, even in the US, if you go to a tailor on the cheaper side (that's about the very bottom edge of the price range for an entire bespoke suit, jacket and matching trousers, in the US, actually, depending on materials and details and, again, going to the right place, but there's a lot of fabric in a heavier coat like that which runs up the price). Short flight from Tokyo I'm sure you could have one made for a hell of a lot less (SE Asia is where people go to have bespoke clothes like that made at 1/3 or less the US/Japan/EU/etc. price)

The oil slick monsters in the basement?

A friend's husband played it VR for a bit but had to stop. He got sick of having his legs sawed off with a chainsaw.

If you have a captive customer base, what does it matter if you elicit enmity?

Oh man the cutscenes are the best part (because they're bad)

To this day an occasional interjection to several of my college buddies is the R4 classic "Writhe in my cage of torment my friend"

(Followed closely by yelling LUIIIIIIIIIIIIS!)

The original RE was created when 3d graphics were still new, and people were still trying to figure out the best way to control 3d characters. And once they cretaed the controls for the 1st game, they kept the control scheme until they revamped the engine for RE4.

Loved the games and bought Resident Evil 6 on the day of release.

Fool me once, Capcom.

I waited maybe a year for 7 and wasn't disappointed.  What an amazing, terrifying game.

But I'll STILL wait for 8.  7 could have been a fluke.

I like the old school games.  I even like Revelations.  The 3 remake ain't so hot.
