"Newsmax already had two correspondents that work with the White House press corps," the spokesman said. "Given the current limited seating for daily briefings, we are pleased with our current representation, and at this time, don't see a need for additional personnel assigned there."

LOL, sure Jan.  I wonder what the real reason was.  It's not like those assholes to withdraw his application because "the liberal media" didn't like it.  They must have threatened something really good.

I think Sean put his foot in his mouth when he said he thought Psaki was very capable.

Maybe they do just think he's the 3rd place finisher in a 3 horse race...

Can someone explain to me why this is a 'messy situation' for the WHCA? Just deny these right-wing propoganda networks access and tell them to fark off? What are they gonna do, complain about liberal bias in the media? Try and make the administration look bad to their viewers? They're gonna do that stuff anyways. Do not give these whiny babies a seat in the press room.

Obama tried that with Fox, all the other "Liberal Media" took him to task for denying "real reporters" access.

First off, Newsmax, OANN, Sinclair - these types of outlets are different then fox news. If you let them in, you will move the press further and further into crazy town by legitimizing them as 'real reporters.' Second, if the other media outlets complain, then fark them too. Let them whine for a while and then forget all about it. What the past few years has shown is that the media a) have the memories of gold fish and b) are all cowards. They will do anything for their precious access.

From the WHCA website: "The White House Correspondents' Association exists to promote excellence in journalism as well as journalism education, and to ensure robust news coverage of the president and the presidency."

So, tell me why they would want to allow obvious propoganda outlets cover the administration. How would that be serving excellence in journalism and robust news coverage?

In terms of them not being legitimate news organizations, then I agree with you, they're not different. But fox is already the "established" voice of crazy town and their tentacles run deep. The others though, I don't think the "mainstream media" would be as quick to defend their brand of crazy if they were shut out. If they do, then fark them, as I said above.

I enjoyed watching Spicer's briefings because it seemed he was fighting working for Trump vs being professional. Unlike his successors he sometimes tried to be traditional which led to entertaining events. But I never really felt bad for him as he was the one who made his bed and chose to work for the devil, so let him sleep in it. Then came the Vatican visit.

Trump, at the last minute, wouldn't let Spicer meet with the Pope, a once in a lifetime opportunity, after Spicer was approved. That was just mean. I don't care what you think of the guy professionally but that was his moment personally.

I think there should be some percentage of accuracy that news media has to meet or exceed, measured by an independent source, to qualify as a legitimate news source. They should all get a rating that's made public, like a credit report score, and it should be a requirement to always post this prominently on its chyron or on the front web page or print page. If they fall below a certain score for a certain period of time, they get suspended. If they repeat offend they lose their license. We can't keep giving liars and conspiracy theorists free broadcast air time.

Sure, I'd love to see a presser where the president planted a comedian to mock everyone there.

JB: "They tell me if I knew for more than four hours, I should seek medical attention."

And of course as soon as you do this, the conservatives will complain that the government is trying to "hide the truth!!11!!"

Which is precisely why this needs to start now.  Because we need to squash this illusion that "the truth" is whatever right-wing media says it is.  That's the first lie that needs to stop.
