italy's a lot richer than serbia, so if its bad in italy's south think how it is in serbia where they live off much less.

there's a reason the serbs all are happy to take jobs here in germany. outside of the small elites its tough there and people are as poor as church mice.

The problem with Italy specifically is that waste disposal is run by the mob everywhere.  It's just as bad in Turin as it is in Naples.

Ugh. I loved the time I spent and things I saw in Serbia, and while I hate to see/hear this, I'm not surprised. Waste Mgmt. is a chunk of infrastructure that strikes me as difficult to organize and/or restore in light of regional issues.

I spent 6 months in Bosnia in 1999. I remember thinking what a beautiful country it would be if it werent for the bombed out buildings and trash. Oh and minefields but I did my part to get rid of the minefields.

Calling humans "pigs" is an insult to pigs everywhere!

Our addiction to plastic will be our longest-lasting legacy for future generations. That is, unless we can get our high-level nuclear waste buried long-term or figure out how to neutralize it.

Not even a native american. An italian from Louisiana. So he is doing "redface" sorta like doing "blackface" but nobody cares about white men dressing up as a caricature of nativ americans. Can you imagine if they put movies out like Roots by Alex Haley and had all white guys in black face? Well the western channel is 90 percent the same but redface instead of blackface

I feel like it's probably better to burn trash for energy production.  Microplastics are a problem.  If you're going to be burning coal or natural gas, might as well burn trash.  Burn efficiently at high temps and filter any contaminants.

Hell, you can use the energy to drive reactors to capture CO2 to hydrocarbons again.  It's not energy efficient by any means, but it's better than having plastics in our food and bags choking whales and what not.

The next time you hear someone shouting that we need to dismantle the EPA, show them the picture from this article.

THIS is just one of thousands of reasons we need the EPA.

This - but as with nuclear, the industry does a crap job of explaining that an incinerator involves a lot more than some guy on a vacant lot with a burn barrel.
