He's gonna be assaulted on the street in broad daylight by the ghost of the dude who assaulted him on the street in broad daylight.

Only there will be much less slime this time.

This is decades too late.

And after the last reimaging, just a bad idea.

Wedge Antilles checking in for two seconds is the least of that movie's problems.

He was supposed to play the role Max von Sydow had in TFA, but thought it was beneath him or something

It would work. IN GB2, he was their lawyer, so maybe he was the one handling Egon's estate and made sure Callie could be found and given the house. Even if he's not in it, that fact could be mentioned.

Some of what I've read and heard from the fan community is that he's bit of a dick about his involvement with Star Wars for whatever reason. Why that is I can't even begin to imagine since Wedge has always been well regarded.

If it did, people wouldn't whine about it so much. It's like when they put something in a movie that's sort of a wink to the hardcore fans. The guys at Red Letter Media cry about it a lot, especially at the new Star Wars movies. Their heads must have exploded watching The Mandalorean.

Meh, he's already brought back Dark Helmet, even if only for a few minutes, in a Goldbergs episode.  I'd like to see Tulley sow up at some point.

There was an interview where he tore the idea of returning apart around the time of TFA, (accurately) figuring most of the olds would pretty much just be trotted out to say "hey it's your favorite character" without actually contributing anything to the story. Looks like he's since claimed it was actually scheduling conflicts and he even voiced Wedge in Squadrons like he did for Rogue Leader back in the day. Personally I think his kid (or grandkids) told him to lighten the fark up and enjoy an easy paycheck.

/really hoped he would have played Poe's no-nonsense CO
//although Leia didn't do a bad job herself

If I remember right it was cause while Wedge is well regarded in books and such in the movies the actor saw Wedge as nothing more then a supporting char and he didn't want to play such a char again.

I find it useful. Like when someone uses the term 'fan service' as a pejorative, I know they don't have anything meaningful to say and can ignore them.

Fan service is like a band yelling "it sure feels great to be back in my favorite city in the world, [whatever city I'm in right now]!" between songs, which is really just a hair above Steve-O using "I have your name tattooed on my ass" as a come on, and a hair below "FINALLY, The Rock has come back to Miami"

The point of all of it is to get a "wooo!" out of the crowd, which isn't bad at all. It doesn't make the concert/sex with Steve-O/professional wrestling any better in terms of lasting quality (and this is where critics of fan service get mad) but most of the time all the people trying to entertain you want is for you to be entertained. They're not lore building or plotting out a very serious work of art that should never be casually enjoyed.

It has little kids in it.  It's a desperate attempt to cash in on Stranger Things, down to even casting that kid. It's the fourth movie in a series that had one good movie.  It's a "course correction" sequel, like Dark Fate and Force Awakens, and those suck. Another cynical, creatively bankrupt nostalgia-trip cash grab.

I have a hard time understanding how anyone could be excited for this.

Sometimes it's treated as a suitable replacement for being any good at all. Typically, in these cases, it also feels poorly motivated and out-of-place, such that it's jarringly immersion-breaking.

That's when it sucks.

Yeah, good fan service is shouting "Hello New York!" before launching into an epic jam.

Bad fan service is a cover band forgetting the lyrics and the music, fumbling with the instruments, and repeatedly stopping a song dead to wail "Hello New York!" in a desperate attempt to keep the audience on their side.

If it ends up a good movie, I'll eat my hat.  I'm going on precedent here.  With the exception of Fury Road, there has not been a single reboot/remake/sequel in the last ten years worth a damn.

Star wars fans probably think he is a dick because it was just a job for him whereas their whole existence is based on biatching about the star wars universe.

I consider the 2016 movie a reboot, not a sequel. Which makes Afterlife no. 3. Plus, the OGs are back as their original characters. Yeah, we know they're older, but they're still back. I always figured the torch would be passed one day to a new generation, and it looks like that's what this is. Plus, they're actually related to one of the GBs, which makes even more sense. I'm going into it expecting a fun return to the world of a movie I enjoy.

Would it be in poor taste to bring him back as a ghost? What if he gave them pre-mortum permission? He could be CGI and it wouldn't even have to look and sound perfect because they'd add ghostly FX to it anyway.

Are they going to bring back Ted and Annette Fleming? Has Ted retired from his small carpet cleaning business in receivership? I assume Annette is no longer still drawing a salary from a deferred bonus from thirty-nine years ago. They had $15,000 left on their house at 8%, so they should be okay, but I need to be sure.
