Even if they don't want to develop their own games (which is absolutely clear at this point), they're leaving money on the table not licensing out Castlevania or Metal Gear to other developers, either AAA studios or Indies.

As someone who once worked there, yeah. We had no idea what corporate was thinking on the game front.

It turns your 6 pack abs into a 30 pack.

Just give me a PC collection of the first four Metal Gear games so I don't have to drag out consoles or emulate. After that they can switch to exclusively producing lawn chairs for all I care.

Four?  Or are you talking about Metal Gear Solid?

I'd be happy to get a retro collection of the original MSX versions of the early games. Or even better, let someone like Yacht Club produce a new one in that style.

I know they've been backing away from video games for a while and are apparently horrible to work for but it's still sad. Lot of afternoons spent playing their games as a kid in the 80's and 90's

Hell, just think of the money they'd make by licensing their big IP to their creators and taking a 5-10 percent cut of sales as the fee.  Millions of dollars without lifting a finger.

I'm still supremely pissed off at the cancellation of Silent Hills.  If the game would have been even a small fraction of the WTFness of this trailer I would have been a happy camper.  And because of Konami's BS we'll never know for sure.

They think they already tried this when they handed off Castlevania to a Spanish developer (mercurysteam) for the Castlevania: Lords of Darkness reboot. Which was a brilliant retelling of the tale from a brand new light, and it didn't sell for shiat. It sold well enough, but not what they wanted.

I was working IT for Terminal Reality at the time, and I was walking the halls, getting some coffee, you know the sweep. She sees me, and she sticks her head out, and waves me over into this meeting in the conference room.

Then she tells me it's farking Konami.

"Hey, bittermang, can you help me show these guys from Konami how our Co-Op mode works? I know you love playing Co-Op"
I'm going to pause for effect here, and give you a second to Google the name of the Terminal Reality developed game that Konami published. Go ahead. Go look. I'll wait.
So I'm standing there with a mic in my hand, in front of some executives from a company who I don't have to sit here and tell you what they've published. And we've been working on this dumb farking karaoke game. But lord knows the Japanese sure love them some dumb farking karaoke and western culture. And I might be whiter than a bedsheet, but my mother didn't raise no biatch; you're goddamn right I sang "Gin and Juice" like I was the drummer boy performing before Sweet Baby Jesus Christ. I put down a High Score that Snoop the Goddamn Dogg-Father Himself Almighty could not best, reveling in all of the absurdity of what my work day had become. I feel like my performance was instrumental, if not single-handedly the reason Konami published Def Jam Rapstar.

And I'm not sorry.

To be honest, I don't know what else they can do with MGS. They've released MG 1-2, MGS 1-4 and Peace Walker in a collection for PS3. MGS5 pretty much serves as the bridge between MGS3 and MG1.

That's basically the whole story of Naked Snake's ascent to Big Boss, his subsequent defeat and then the Solid Snake legacy, with many plot twists and confusion to boot.

A true VR could be cool but might be hard to pull off, but story wise, I don't know what's left to tell.

MGS 1 (or 1-3 if they're ambitious) in the MGSV engine would be amazing.  Also, I would absolutely love a Switch port of the Acid games.  That sort of card-based gameplay is having a real surge in popularity lately thanks to stuff like Slay the Spire.  They would be a perfect fit for Switch.

So, SSA's finally buying them after ten years, it looks like.

Castlevania: Loads of Derivation had teaser boxes showing Sega as the publisher. Sega also licenses their real cash cows in the U.S. - line games (digital slot machines).

Sammy makes pachinko games, pinball tables (JP) and owns Raw Thrills who makes light gun games and owns Play Mechanix, who makes Big Buck Hunter.

So this isn't surprising - old man Ko is slowing closing shop.

Does this mean Kojima can make another Metal Gear game?  Cause it's the only thing he's really good at.

If it's any consolation, Def Jam Rapstar was one of my favorite games that I've ever tested. Of course I have a soft sport for karaoke in general, but still, it's a fairly short list.
