The good news: It still works
The bad news: Now you will need 3 shots
The real bad news: We're having trouble even having enough vaccine for one shot

They're only saying that because people won't want Bill Gates to microchip them unless they have full immunity to different COVID strains.

Pretty sure Trump and now Biden isn't in charge of keeping inventory records for Pharma's vaccine supplies.

For those of us on the Pfizer schedule...I'm curious what will happen. Will we also need a 3rd shot. I'll gladly get one if that's the recommendation.

Perhaps, but the Biden administration still won't have records of all the doses that Kushner stole.

They are for keeping track of how much vaccine the US has and where it went, and Trump "lost" one million doses.

I'm betting some, if not all, of the members of the Global Health Security and Biodefense team that Trump disbanded in 2018, most likely because Obama had created it in 2015 and Trump did his best to piss on anything at which Obama succeeded.

In May 2018, the team was disbanded and its head Timothy Ziemer, top White House official in the NSC for leading U.S. response against a pandemic, left the Trump administration, the Washington Post reported ( here ). Some members of the global health and security team were merged into other units within the NSC, the article said.

The Moderna and Pfizer vaccines seem t be pretty similar (same approach, same 2-shot dosage, similar storage temperatures, etc...) so I'd think that you're still probably good.

I can't remember who but I heard some doctor on TV say they should be spaced a couple of weeks apart. That may be a hardship for some people. Making appointments at doctors can take forever. Especially now, I assume.

Hopefully the COVID vaccine will be available at walgreens, CVS, and grocery stores like the flu vaccine is now pretty soon.

The grocery store I shop at, that does flu vaccinations too, sent out a message a few weeks ago saying COVID vaccines were coming but couldn't say when.

That is correct, my instructions say to wait 1-2 weeks between the Covid vaccine and getting another vaccine. I don't think there is any evidence that getting two different vaccines closer together would make one or both less effective, they are just being overly cautious.

Who in the fark knows when the vaccine will be approved for kids.

Pfizer's vaccine needs storage at -60°C to -80°C; Moderna's needs storage at -15°C to -25°C. BIG difference.

Washington, as of Friday, was at 47.77%. None too thrilled, here. 391,195 of 898,925 total, with a 7-day average of 17,618 doses per day. If this rate remains constant, it'll take over a year (432 days) to vaccinate the entire state's population, and nearly a year (324 days) just to get to 75% for some sort of herd immunity effect.

2021-01-25 5:17:20 PM
For the variants so far.  Are they saying that it is impossible for the covid to mutate into a resistant form?  And if not, my money is on a variant from Florida becoming immune to the vaccines.

Sounds more like wishful thinking than facts.

That last point is kind of BS. The data is publicly available on the CDC web site (with a web api even!), and many reputable publish the data. 41 million plus doses delivered so far. I don't know what kind of incompetence the new cdc director is trying to sell.

got my first Moderna shot on Friday. pretty much the same side effects - very mild headache, arm hurt, and my body felt like it was fighting something off on Saturday. Sunday I felt fine.

not looking forward to the second shot because of the side effects but yet I am looking forward to it to get it out of the way.

Last week we vaccinated about 350-400 people over 80 years old on our community every day.

Quite an accomplishment for our little Critical Access Hospital.

Today the drive thru is empty because we don't know when we will get more doses.

We need mass immunization events amd we need the federal government involvement.

Hospital systems cannot simultaneously immunize their entire communities, and care for the sick.

Anything is possible since I work at a hospital (IT), and just life, but I've had no symptoms of Covid. 2nd shot gave me all the good ones though. Fever, chills, body aches, fatigue (main one that lasted past 36 hours), and again being WAY thirsty.
Two co-workers got their 2nd shot around the same time I did with the same results, both also with mild/no symptoms from the first.

Feel 97.3% today.
100% worth the few days of feeling bad.

West virginia claims to have administered greater than 100% of its allocated doses (due to getting extra doses from the vials). I kind of believe it too. They have been super efficient. Pretty much every healthcare worker that wants one has had at least one shot. Even the ladies at my office that work the front desk are vaccinated now. I was also able to get my 67 yo mother vaccinated this AM.

That isn't wishful thinking though, it's the truth. It might be a bit weasley but public relations doesnt want people taking "we dont know yet" as "no". Negative language can really skew perception but it isn't wishful or a lie, it's the truth, just put in make up for the TV cameras

Wait for Costco to start administering shots.  Then you can bring a friend and get a Kirkland brand six-pack.

All seriousness aside, my disabled relative (whom I support) and I are scheduled for our 1st doses (Moderna) in less than two weeks.  Hunkering down and counting the days.  My primary care physician's wife is one of my besties, and she told me before Christmas to just assume that the super-contagious variant is already here.  She and the doctor wear masks and face shields in public, and they tell everyone do the same.
