I frankly don't understand why the movie studios don't just put a hold on everything or almost everything until the virus is de facto gone.  Yeah, yeah, there's interest and shiat, but interest rates are lower than inflation (and inflation is pretty damned low), so that's a bad excuse.  If you can make $50 million releasing blockbuster A now and $250 million if you wait a year, just wait a farking year.

As we told you, this was to be expected in Q1, given how the virus is lingering despite the deployment of the vaccines. There's an interesting article in this morning's New York Times about how many more infections we're bound to get, even with the vaccines, should the country decide to relax restrictions. Already with the vaccines, scientists at Columbia University estimate that we're on track for 158M total infections if the current restrictions we have in the U.S. stay in place until late July. This could mean we go through yet another cycle of release-date changes and push theatrical further into the fall. We'll see.

1. I don't think that they understand how vaccines work. The virus doesn't vanish the second the vaccine shows up - COVID-19 isn't Trump whenever a reporter asks him a question.
2. The vaccines aren't going to slow total infections for the first half of the year because, quite simply, Americans are dumbasses.
3. There's nothing to "see." We're going to go through yet another cycle of release-date changes, because it's farking inevitable.

We're already behind my predicted estimate - we won't be anywhere near safe until at least the end of June, and more likely by the end of October - and I've been pretty close so far, so I'm willing to stick with it. Despite Biden's assurances, the Trump administration simply farked this up end to end, far more than even the Biden administration had ever imagined at its worst, and that it's going to take another couple of months to actually assemble a working vaccination infrastructure, never mind get 75+% of the population fully vaccinated by then.

Chastity worked for every penny of that. Plus you know her baby daddy been out of work since the lockdown. Man only knows how to play bass an' him playing Fortnight on YouTube ain't payin' no bills.

Well yeah, let's try to Liam Neeson fire a ping-pong ball across the club and into a pint glass on the first try.

Considering what these headlines usually look like in the dollar amount that is associated with them, this headline made me and Mrs. Knarf laugh our asses off

They probably already wrote the taxes off for their expected losses.

For the most part they have. But this brings up the problem of when this is over we will have over a year's worth of delayed movies plus what was supposed to come out at that time. And it is going to take years to get movie going back to where it was assuming it ever has a full recovery. So you can hold on to a movie for years, go straight to streaming, go up against way too many movies at once, or come out before the pandemic is finished. Every option sucks assuming your movie is not so bad that it should have gone straight to streaming in a pandemic-free world.

Monster Hunter was a legitimately laugh out loud bad movie. Highly entertaining nearly the whole way through. If you can see it safely and are into that kind of enjoyment I highly suggest it.

dear movie studios.. just release the farking movies on streaming platforms. I will gladly pay $40 for 48hours viewing access to black widow rather than have to wait another year or risk covid in a movie theater.

Who wants to see a movie about some old dude with a Sharpie?

I know the ending already, it dries up, the head gets mushy, he grudgingly buys a new one after putting the old one in a junk drawer in his kitchen hoping it will write again.  It doesn't.  When he dies, his kids throw the whole drawer of old pens into the trash.  The end.

Generally, yeah.  I am seeing Dune on a big screen and I dont care what I might catch as a result, though.

By the time Dune finally comes out, the big screens will have been burned down for insurance money.
